How to make a glass sig

Without all that advanced stuff, here is how to make a glass signature:

1. Open a new document (CTRL+N), I recommend 400x150.

2. Grab the selection tool and select like so:

3. Grab the gradient tool, and drag it up, like so:

4. Grab the selection tool, and grab the top part of the image:

5. Grab the gradient tool, and drag it down, like so:

6.
CTRL+U, Saturation -100.

7. CTRL+A, Edit, Stroke = 1px, black, center.

8. Add your text and you are done!

Notes: You can use CTRL+U And colorize it to your settings. :)

One question. When I try to do the select tool the first time, it doesn't stay, it disappears. So how do I get it to stay? Which selection tool do I need to use?
