If there was a refferendum on whether or not Britain could become a republic without a monarchy or anything, like america. Would you vote yes or no. So basically would you rather see Britain as a republic rather than a monarchy with a parliment. I would poll yes i could like to see Britain as a republic. As no king or queen is the best for the role of leader, its just some birth right. I do also not believe all that power in one person. Imagine if britain didnt have a parliment? It would be catastophic. Obviously americans cant really vote, unless they want to see a crown...but aussies, brits and most other commonwealth countries can vote. |

This might sound stupid but Britain has kept the same government forever and why change, it is successful in Europe. |

I think Britain is fine as it is. The monarchy has almost no power anyway, they're basically show, which isn't really a bad thing. The people like them, and like to believe in them. Parliment serves its purpose, and as long as everything goes like this I'm sure it wouldn't make much of a difference if it was a monarchy or a republic. |

I voted yes. I, for one, would like to see the monarchy dethroned. They have no power and no use as far as i'm concerned apart from being a large waste of the british taxpayers money. Nobody should be 'born' into power by birthright, but rather earn it through life, like in parliment. |

IMO Britain should stay the way it's been. Trying to convert from a Monarchy to a Republic could really mess things up and upset a great deal of the people who are effected. I do agree with Rowain. Nobody should be born with a birthright to control and have awesome amounts of power and respect. Things like that are meant to be earned, otherwise their meanings are stretched out of proportion and eventually have no meanings at all. |

Not true. The monarch has to sign every bill made by the government before it can become a law. ...that's about it though ![]() I like it the way it is. Britain has done extremely well over the last 1500 years will a king or queen in charge, so I see no need for reform

Exactly. That's why I voted no; they have little power anyway, and the Kings and Queens of Britain have an important historical role. |

At first i didn't no what you where going on about but i understand now. I voted no because, at the moment decisions have to be shown to the queen and she has to say if they can do what they want to do. What would happen if we got a power hungry prime minister who wanted to do stupid things with out the queen there to be able to say no? So basicly it's less likely to have two people who are power hungry. I do believe that someone shouldn't just be allowed to be queen or king because they where born in the family, but it does work as it is. |

And that basically amounts to....very little ![]() If other countries manage without them, so i'm sure we can. Like i said before they are a waste of our money, and are litle more than hideously expensive decoration. Also, none of the Monarchy has any credibility after numerous public scandals, and because of those scandals, none are fit to ascend to the Throne including Charles', and Diana's sons. Their lack of popularity shows that. The monarchy is an outdated proccess, and should have been abolished years ago. |

I'm American, so this is all my personal view. The Queen, and the rest of the royal line, but particularly the Queen are important morale boosters in England. Upon her death, you'll see quite a few people weeping over her death. The abolishment of the royal line from power, in my opinion, would be a foolish mistake on the part of England. After all, the government is already a constitutional monarchy, which is very close to that of the US already. Basically,I see no need for any reform at this time. |

Britain is not a monarchy anyway. The queen is simply a figurehead, she has little or no actual power. |

I voted no as Britain needs the monarchy for tradition and moral boosting. The Queen may just be a figurehead and is next to useless but she is a moral booster. |
