On this date in history, former attorney general and sitting New York Senator Robert Francis Kennedy was shot 3 times. It was 37 years ago today. Sirhan Sirhan is responsible for 2 of them; however, the gun that the 3rd shot came from was never determined. It is possible that the assassin who shot the 3rd bullet, the killing bullet, still walks with the human race today. But that’s not the point. The point of this short article is that Senator Robert Kennedy died today, 37 years ago. A visionary cut down in his reach for ultimate power. Robert Kennedy’s message, his ideals… they have nearly died with him. No other member of the Democratic, Republican, or any third party can even come close to his conviction in carrying his ideals, and honest efforts to help the poor and those who were downtrodden by civilization. RFK once said, describing himself, that “some men see things as they are and say ‘why?’ I say things that never were and ask ‘why not?’” RFK truly was a different kind of person than the politicians and the kings of today’s world. He was a visionary. No matter your political affiliation, today is a day of mourning and reflection. For some, it is not a day for mourning over the death of the man; but if one was to mourn every time a great man died, one would never be happy. But it is most certainly a time to mourn the day when politics changed forever. On the day Bobby Kennedy was murdered, the world wept. But they wept not necessarily for Bobby, although some would not bring themselves to admit it. They wept for both the death of the man who understood them, and the death of the last honest politician of that generation. Sure, there would be others. Other honest men, who want to change the world in politics. But after the death of RFK, honest politicians haven’t gotten a chance. Politics have centered around whomever can BS their way through their party rank the best. It is, in my opinion, quite a dark time, but as has been said before, that topic is for debate another day, in another topic. Today is a day to mourn the loss of not just another faceless politician that no one cares about. It is a day to mourn a man who truly was a friend, a leader, and a harbinger of peace. So today is a day of mourning. It is a day to sit back and ponder on what could have been, and, as RFK would, ponder what never was and ask yourself the simple question: “why not?” That is all we can do. |

It's truly a sad day in history, Goe. Thank you for bringing some history and emotion back into General Chat. There will never bee another RFK, but we can hope there will be those who want to be like him. And perhaps one of them will amount to something more then just a fan. |

RFK was indeed a good candidate for presidency. He would've a darn good one. He was a great American that was shot in his prime. |

If Kennedy was president. We would have never gone to war with Vietnam. Think about that. |

Yes, a great American Mr. Kennedy was. His vision for a greater world compares to that of only a few others. It's a shame that his life was cut so short... |

Sorry, unless Kennedy went back in time a few years it would be impossible for him to prevent the war which HAD ALREADY STARTED. |
