THis is a discussion why almost all rookie boards fail. It's a common problem. Most boards don't even last one week, or achieve even 15 members, let alone 50 or so posts. (honorably earned, at that) One common problem is that even the least person will not join until there is at least so many posts AND members. But that completely destroys any chance for it to succeed, even if it IS a good board. It's like saying "This board will not see memebers until it has at least 20 members." Thus, you would need, in this case, 19 members, that WILL NOT JOIN, to even have the board live. Care to talk about this, or any other issue in that matter? |

Some people post a lot and make fake accounts to make their board seem active. Other than that, if the board is good, or you advertise at a huge place, like I did with my old board, you are likely to get more members. |

How on earth do you see this as spam? I agree with what you said, Developous. People have pre-conceived ideas about new boards. |

Its my opinion on the topic: However, I think it is because rookies don't gain respect from other members, thus no members on their boards. |

I set up a board once and got 50 members in half an hour, its all about a viable marketing plan. I never did actually open that board

No, what causes the problem is people giving up on their board after the little "deficet" each board has while trying to get a repuation. If you get a good member group ready to join your forum as soon as it starts you can close up the lack of members and encourage more to join. |

It takes time to get people to join your board but once in a while it would be better if they join instead of visiting but one thing's for sure never give up on your board no matter how grim things might look. |

Most "rookie" boards that fail nowadays, do not fail because they are 'doomed from the start.' They fail because there are so many InvisionFree forums around, that it is very hard to come up with good, orginal forum themes that will attract people to your forum. Nobody wants to see another general chat forum. But if someone were to come up with something else that hasn't been so overused, they are more likely to gain a few extra members. For example, I have a forum for writer's. You don't see too many forums like that on InvisionFree, so I didn't have any trouble getting my first few members. It was original enough that people were willing to follow the link. |

No one will join your board unless you have something fun, unique, or lillegal to offer. If you want to attarct attention, you better get some graphics guru's, becuase the only thing that really makes any board is visuals. If you board looks like crap, it dosnt matter what you offer. Besides, we have too many boards kicking around anyway, its a good thing they dont last. |

*looks at board with 6 members* Yeah, I see what you mean. The best thing is to stick with it, advertise in every freakin place you can, and tell your freinds. Then they tell thier friends. And the circle of life continues. |

Ah, as a previous ex-owner of alot of failing boards, I finally found one that is actually doing quite decent. One thing that I might think is the main factor of success is advertising. Simon had advertised my board EVERYWHERE, and I thank him for that. Also, my board offers unique ideas... |
