Silence. I'm thinking.

The key thing is getting your forum active from the start. Once you do that, it's as easy as... wind? O_o

Hype is another key aspect. Look at Nitekry, they advertised the NK sigs for well over a month before opening the forum. This got people constantly seeing "Nitekry" and when it opened I am sure many checked it out to see what the hype was about. Also if you put 2 hours of work into a forum then you will get the same amount of output from it. Preparing takes time but it pays off. I recommend putting at least a full week of work into a forum to work out the glitches, finish the layout, etc. before opening it to the public.

It's really hard to get a board started. You can't advertise anytype of boards that have anything to do with graphics here, and you can't pm advertise. But if you can't pm advertise, how come so many people have this panda revolution thingy in there sig if they don't pm advertise here?

There are staff lounge on IFSZ. The staffs could have talk it over on the staff lounge and decided that who wear it, etc. The panda sig includes a sentence "Support panda revolution by wearing this sig" When members saw staffs wear the sig, they are curious, and so they followed. It's as simple as that. :)

hmm... the easy way i think... to get a board going from the beginning... is having a decent sized staff... so their will be activity... even if you dont actually need all those ppl...

Most "rookie board" owners will promote a stranger to admin just because he gets 2 posts. Thats one reason why they fail so often.

Ah, as a previous ex-owner of alot of failing boards, I finally found one that is actually doing quite decent. One thing that I might think is the main factor of success is advertising. Simon had advertised my board EVERYWHERE, and I thank him for that. Also, my board offers unique ideas...

Well, publciity is the key :clown:

The simple answer is, inexpiriance kills a board.

Newbs commonly pick the older and less advanced skins in the database, don't complete the graphic side, make too many forums, don't use satisfactory grammar, and many more things.

These 'rookie boards' are more than likely to fail due to the fact the owners aren't well versed in running an IF Forum.

One word: Publicity.

I have a few tricks... Like e-mailing all the members from a site I admined a while back with the address of a 'replacement' for it. 34 members on that site now...

And showing another site in Invisionfree Directory. Only set it up yesterday, so not perfect yet, but have six members including myself. Two of whom I don't recognise e-mail addresses of.

Apart from prospective Admins/Staff, who consented to being shown the link before i gave it, The panda revo has never needed (and will never need) to be PM advertised, on any board.

The thing that has put a smile on my face is that so many have taken the code from my sig and put it into theres, as well as many have spoken to me enquiring what the hell it is, all despite no-one involved giving out too much knowledge either way. ^_^

I'm glad people have that much faith in me personally, and 'we' hope to deliver what i can the best i can the best 'we' can.

Which takes me back to what i said about good marketing of course :)

It can be hard at first to get your board up and running, sometimes even with decent advertising. But from my experiences, it is best to start forums with a few of your friends, so you can get a decent post count up and running.

i've been working at starting a board myself as well. actually, i created a very nice custom skin for it which i hope to finish and release soon. i'm thinking that if the skin goes will, then the add in my sig upon its release will work too. i like the idea of adding hype. maybe getting some sig runners to do it for a few weeks as well. i'm calling it .fractured chasm..
