Well just got me a new laptop and it kicks ***. except for one thing i have an AMD athlon 64 3200+ and i was under the impression that the speed on those bad bois are like 2 ghz at minimum. But when i went to my computer properties its telling me 498 MHZ! So as you can imagine I was severly distraught. Is that fast for an AMD or what is going on? It seems to run fine but has a hard time playing games such as guild wars and source, but with my graphics card i wasn't expecting it to run at all. heres my system stats the processor 512 ram 80 gb hd 64 mb dunno brand gfx card. |

I read somewhere that the AMD 64 proccessors have somthing called "Cool n Quiet" technology. It attempts to save energy by only using the maximum amount of power when needed and keeping usage low when you dont need it. It can be turned off in the BIOS I think. |

Yeah the only reason is sucks at games is b/c of your vid card. I have an AMD cpu in my PC and I can run all my games at high res and high settings. |

You sure your motherboard can handle it? Check your motherboard's documentation and then make sure BIOS is set to recognize your processor. The video card is not going to lower your speed, also whats it telling you it is on bootup, in POST? |

Check the speed using something other then the System properties such as CPU-Z and it should be shown correctly. It most likely has to do with a bad install, drivers or IRQ conflicts. Also your video card has to do with your games (most likeley in this case), but Guild Wars should run fine depending on your video card. |

i checked the my computer properties I didn 't have a systeminfo.exe in my system 32 folder (god knows why) I went to start>All programs>Acessories>System tools>System info is their a site where it can gather that info for me? and to all those that say my games run slow because of my video card I don't much care. I want to know why my processor isn't as fast as it is supposed to be. |

Update I looked at someones quiet and cool post above and researched it. Yes the processor only clocks faster whne it neeeds to to conserve. I tested it. Results=Positive it clocks up to 2 ghz when i open guild wars. Although I have shared some of my ram for gfx and it still lags like ****. If anyone know how to turn quiet and cool off and on please tell me. It could save me some time on google. |

Why not just leave Cool n Quiet on? You have a laptop so it would be the best choice.
You said your games ran bad so all we did was inform you that it was most likely your video card. |

yea but i stated with the video card i had i didn't much expect the type of games i had to run great. although you help was much appreciated, don't get my wrong. and yea, I could go upgrade my gfx card when i get the cash and see how everything works out. Game wise that is. so yea if my amd was clocking at 2 ghz then guildwars should be just fine cpu wise. Thanks for all your help, saved me a trip back to fry's lol. |

The GeForce2 MX400 may be a PCI card. There are no PCI cards I recommend for gaming and the higher-end PCI cards (still junk though) are just a waste of money. Your better off buying a new CPU, mobo and video card so you can get a new video card if you have no AGP slots. You may have an AGP slot though so I would check. Then you can upgrade. |
