Do you think society places to much pressure on teens and young adults to look "Sexy" or "Hot?" I am seeing so much talk of this around I figured it would be a good thing to debate. :)

I'll post some of my input later. I don't want it to start out with any bias.

My views.

Yes I think the media is placing WAY to much on pushing kids as far as appearance. I mean I go to church camp, a place where modesty should be practiced especially, and I see girls wearing next to nothing and if I saw one on the street dressed like that, a certain word would definately come to mind. It shames me that today's youth think they have to have a perfect, or even close to perfect body to fit in. I know for a fact I am friends with people who aren't "hot" by the worlds standard. I think people these days should try to be healthy and all but not to the point that problems such as anorexia and bulemia get involved. I think that we should all accept our physical features as they are and not set our life goal to get rid of our blemishes but perfect our good spots.

I make fun of the girls* who try too hard to be "hot" because they often end up making themselves look stupid. As for me, the concepts of peer pressure and popularity are lost on me.

*i.e. a large portion of the girls who attend my school.

Everyone wants a reaction. If Girls want to be objectifyed into sexy decorations, that's fine with me, I like hot girls. I'm not "sexy" according to MTV: I have bad acne, i'm pale, and I don't pop my collar. Damn shame, huh?

I think that kids place too much pressure on themselves and others from the projections of the media.

My eyes tell me its okay, and so does my reproductive unit.

Therefore, I see no faults in the system.

Looks are WAY too important in society today. People need to learn that a person's personality is more than enough and you should get to know people for who they are rather than how they look.

I also hate when women wear makeup. It just looks so fake and I would MUCH rather see their natural beauty rather than a fake one they think they need.

Wow. You, borbosha, get respect points, because this girl thinks that makeup sucks. I hate it - it's a major pain to put on, and can smudge or run, unless you get waterproof, which is a major pain to take off. It's just not worth all the trouble...maybe eyeliner. I think people look better with just moisturizer.

And yes, the media puts a lot of pressure on everyone to look "hot". There is this thing called a personality - too bad the media doesn't stress the "inner hottness" we all have.

yeah, there is pressure to look "hot" and "sexy" sometimes it's fun though to get some cute clothes and put on make up and know you look good. I'm way to big IMO, I don't want to be as skinny as like a pencil or anything, just smaller. And men say they don't like women that put on make up and all, but sometimes I find that men will say that, but if you're wearing no make up and not to good looking clothes, the only second looks you'll get will be looks of disgust
