Wtf was so great about this film? I borrowed this when I was a kid and turned it off because it was boring. Now it's on tv and tried watching it again. But, again, I couldn't watch it without getting excrutiatingly bored. I fail to understand why this movie is praised so much. IMO it is deeply overrated. :|

Well, It would have been a cruddy movie had it not been with Leslie Neilson, He made it semi-good. Like the Club Bathroom, Hilarious.

I watched it on new years day in 2001. It was intresting, but I thought it was pretty boring. I think my dad met (or knew) the director.

Read the book, then watch the movie if you want to get anything out of it. In my opinion, it is one of the best movies ever made, and it is my favorite book.

It's a great commentary on IBM's social domination, andthe director's opinion of personal computers. If you didn't catch it, HAL is the 3 letters before IBM, the director was saying how PC's can become too powerful for their own good.

Plus, there's monkeys beating each other with sticks. All commentary on social evolution aside, thats hilarious.

The name HAL is an amalgam of "heuristic" and "algorithmic," the two main processes of learning.

It's a great movie, but it has too much meaning for today's market.
