I honestly don't think the question is correct though, shouldn't it be "Do your parents understand you?". You can't just say no parent that walks the earth understands their child one bit, because my parents do. I don't think you can judge all parents just on the behavior of your parents, because on a regular basis no two people are alike, therefore no one treats their child the same. There are parents who are strict, some who aren't strict enough, people who are too distant, people who are too close, but there are parents in between all that. So I say that the question that your asking, is the wrong one.

You're right.

Most of you don't know what you're talking about, because you've never been in your parents' shoes.

They know what's good for you, and you don't.

They have experienced your age already. You haven't.

They know what will happen when you do certain things, because you did them to.

Your job as a child is to shut up and listen to your parents. They know what they're talking about, because they have been you before. So there's no way you can say they don't understand you. As a whole, they most likely understand you better than you do.

You're a parent aren't you?

Yes, let's all listen to them, let's do everything they did and let's do it their way. Let's not learn ourselves, let's be their little clone. Let's turn out exactly like them.

I dunno about you guys, but my parents are a lot liek the other Keith's (wow, that's odd isn't it?). No matter what I do it's never enough, but when my borther even makes a fricking B on his report card he's praised. If i make a B I'm punished!

So no, parents don't always understand, yeah sure they've been here before, but it was so much different in their days. The world is a much different palce now.

Well said Myr.
+ respect.

Thats the thing, I do listen to everything they tell me and I do what they want, but my dad I swear he'll search for ways to punish me, it's almost like I've been so good for so long, I haven't done anything.....he can't accept that so he'll blow up on me for like 5 minutes straight about how I forgot to plug something back into an outlet or I left a pop can on a table. He's a ticking time bomb.

I think they do to a point. i just wish in some situations we could switch shoes, and let them see how they feel.

I always look at things from my daughters point of view, I am a very chilled out parent and I never come over as the heavy except when its like absolutely necessary. Example, really messy bedroom and Ive asked her to clean it up thousands of times but she doesnt do it...I dont go in her room much at all but it gets to points when she cant even see the carpet :P Thats the time when I say come on sort it out but I never nag really. I dont have a fixed bedtime for her, shes a good kid anyway and I think partly why is because shes allowed to be herself :D

You people will someday realize how wrong you are about your parents not understanding you.

And guess what, knowing what's right for you is plenty a part of it.

I see where you're comming from, and I think you're getting off the wrong impression. You see, I lvoe my parents, I know they're trying to help me and when I compare myself to my friends like, at least I dont do drugs or drink alcohol like everyone my age is doing, they take that as, oh good I didn't expect you to be doing that anyways. But I guess I like that, they only treat me that way becuase they DO think highly of me, it just comes off oddly. I wouldn't want parents that say we're proud of you for not doing drugs either lol.

I dunno, I'm not ranting on like this becuase I hate my dad, there are just some things about me he doesn't want to accept, and they aren't necessarily bad things either. I can understand my parents, but I don't think they bother to understand me becuase they're scared I'll screw off becuase of lack of experience. Overall they're pretty reasonable people so I don't mind them.
