I'm sure I could point out a couple people that could kick your butt with Photoshop as well. Both are good programs. It's just your preference.

Personally, I prefer Photoshop CS1 > GIMP.

I said technically it is. They might be 2 different companys but one still owns the other.

You dont seem to get it, its Macromedia Fireworks, no adobe nothing, they hadnt combined yet, so the program is called Macromedia Fireworks 2004 pro, it has absolutly nothing to do with Adobe

Currently, the name is under Macromedia. But, flash will soon become Adobe Flash.

That looks pretty 'Macromedia Fireworks' to me, maybe just accept that you might be wrong instead of pointlessly continuing an argument. Adobe and Macromedia have not 'officially' merged - yes, the ownership may have changed but that is a different thing all together.

I love it how PSP isn't an option on this poll.. ;)

As for programs, it's obvious that The Gimp/Paint/whatever have no chance against any fully fledged graphics program. As for the better program, I've used most, save PSP, and I'd have to say the Photoshop is better,. illustrator is good when you want to easily combine graphics into other Macromedia software (Flash/DreamWeaver), but otherwise hasn't got all the tolls/filter of Photoshop. As I said, I haven't used PSP, but apparently Photoshop owns that too. ;)
