HTML Problem

I have designed a template for my site in 1st page 2000. It displays how I want it to be; however, when I upload the file and preview it through Firefox, there's a problem.

Here's a link: http://the-fiction-place.com/ (I hope I'm not advertising)

As you can see, the right table seems the sag underneath the left table, and the copyright is aligned to the left, and not to the center, defined the CSS. How can I fix the table issues and the copyright issue? Again, I'm using Mozilla Firefox.
Thanks. :)

It's a problem with FireFox, in Opera the website appears perfectly fine.

I think the problem is that you didn't exactly define where the stuff should be. Most browsers are okay with that, because you just list them after eachother. I guess Firefox is just picky. If you want it to work better, you'll have to change it quite a bit and you'd probably have to use IDs and such along with the classes. I could work on getting it Firefox compatible, if you'd like. I'd need to move it to my own server for testing, though.

Just edit it locally.

That's what I meant.. I just don't want to start editing someone else's work without permission.

Try this;
Code:

<table width="20%" class="tableback" align="left">
<--into-->
<table width="18%" class="tableback" align="left">
<-------->
<table width="80%" class="tableback" align="right">
<--into-->
<table width="78%" class="tableback" align="right">

Firefox seems to like doing that when your paddin is wrong, so overall you could have 2 tables and they would add up to more than the pages width, so ti chucks them down to the botom. I'm not certain if what I said will work, but try it =/

It happened to me when there was a semi-colon rather than a colon in the URL. Perhaps Epsilekt tried before you corrected it :rolleyes: *-)

But I didn't edit the topic at all.

Is this becoming the Twilight Zone or something? :huh:

MasterG... I fixed the semicolon myself... O_o

This is really scary.

Mrs. Sim, try adding this code to all of your table and td tags, it should fix the problem, if not, well, atleast your html is validated a little more.

Code:

valign="top"

I tested it out and came to a solution in FireFox:

The main problem is the widths, it's fine in IE, but just an extra 1% causes problems for Firefox. To edit this, you should make the class changes as shown below (bold):
Quote:

<table class="tableback2" align="left">
<tr>
<td>
<table class="newsback">
    <tr>
        <td>
         <div class="tableborder">
      <div class="bar2">Welcome!</div>
      <div class="maincontents">
      <div class="text1">
      <p><img src="images/drop_cap1.gif" align="left" alt="T" />he

Fiction Place is a friendly community where writers of all types around the globe can share

href="./forums/index.php">community forums</a> is a great place to start. Registration is

free, and only requires an email address.</p>
               <p>Thank you for visiting this site, and we hope you have a pleasant time

here.</p>

         </div>
      </div>
      </div>
     </td>
    </tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<table class="tableback3" align="right">
<tr>
<td>
<table class="newsback">
    <tr>
        <td>
         <div class="mainborder">
      <div class="bar2">Latest News</div>
      <div class="maincontents">
      <div class="text1">
      <p><i>August 17, 2005</i></p>
      <p>We have recently created a new design for the site; the forums

will be also redesigned to match the new design.<br />
      Although were are still working on some parts of the site, however,

most areas should be accessable.
      If you'd like to report a broken link, post a thread in the

forums.</p>

         </div>
      </div>
      </div>
     </td>
    </tr>
</table>

Upon switching the classes, move over to your stylesheet and add the following:
Quote:

.tableback2 {
width : 20%;
}

/* This will display the width as 80% in IE */
.tableback3 {
width : 80%;
}

/* This will give the correct width for non-IE browsers */
html > body .tableback3 {
width : 79%;
}

IE does not recognize html > body in CSS, which makes it an excellent workaround for cross-browser issues.

Also, you should look into coding this page entirely with Divs, CSS, and xHTML 1.0 strict, as it seems very capable of being. You should also check out the validators at w3.org if you haven't already to clear up a few coding warnings that were on your page.

Hope this helped,
SyringeX

P.S. I like the design :yes:
