Recently I was trying to repair the OS on my second PC. I have a Windows 98 SE CD but the drivers are not the most recent for the PC. It's fairly new, only a year and a half old. How do I go about getting the drivers needed without an Internet connection on that Computer ? I have this one that has access, and I know I could search, but where do I find out what driver is specifically required ?

You can find out the vendor of the CD-ROM drive by looking at the label on of the drive.

You'll have to remove the PC cover, and unscrew the drive, and look at the label. It should usually have a name there.

If it has a name, you can search for the vendor's name on the internet and search for drivers there, usually downloadable.

If it doesn't, then it's one of those generic drives; I can't help you there.

...by the way, have you created a Startup Disk back when you had 98 SE? It could help you re-install 98 SE on your computer.

:)

To find the drivers for almost any device, go to the company's site that makes it. Download it to a floppy and transfer it to the other computer. Also, if your computer is a pre-built one (dell, gateway, etc...) then go to there website, and they will most likely either have the drivers or links to where they are.

How old is the CD? And I would think you could get the drivers from microsoft.com and then burn them on a CD.

Why microsoft.com? The drivers are for hardware, not software...

There isn't a floppy drive on it, becuase some of the newer systems don't have them.

Anyways, I'll search the companies site for it. How will I transfer it without a floppy drive. I could install one but I would like a better way.

If you have a CD burner, you could burn the files to a CD, or, if you have USB ports and flash memory, you could use that as well. Otherwise, there isn't really any other way I can think of at the moment.
