The myth most people tend to believe, is that installing software in Linux is hard, and takes a lot of time. I'm sure most Windows users here also believe it.

It's not harder, it's not more time consuming, it's just different.

Sure, some things in Linux require you to compile from source code, but there is always a readme, and really, are 32 commands that hard to type in, one right after another (./configure -- make -- make install)? If I were to write a program and give out a .deb, .rpm, and the source code, that'd pretty much force Windows users to compile, and the argument could be flipped. It's not a fault of Linux, or the programmers, it's not a fault at all really, it's just something that comes with having a different operating system.

Please note I am not here to convince people to move to Linux because of how easy it is, I am just trying to clear things in the minds of those ignorant close minded people, I'm saying no names, I'm not going to imply any names.

Here's a nice article on it, worth a read to those with closed minds:

Nice Find, Keith. Installations really arent hard at all, especially when using synaptic, or another package manager. And even compiling is rather easy.

Using apt-get is even easier then installing from an .exe in Windows.

I doubt that people dont use Linux that much because its harder to install something, but more likely because there is a new version of mostly any popular Linux distro every 30 mins or so  So its very hard to keep up, wheres in Windows you just have one stupid thing sitting there, not needing to be updated, and all that. (and plus Linux is easy to crack, cause its not protected any way like Windows is)

Wow. I laugh at you, and don't know where to start picking away your ignorance at.

but more likely because there is a new version of mostly any popular Linux distro every 30 mins or so : There are normally new updates every 3-6 months or so, because the OS is rapidly evolving, and becoming even better and better in that timeframe. Its called progress, and its actuially a GOOD thing.

So its very hard to keep up, wheres in Windows you just have one stupid thing sitting there, not needing to be updated, and all that. Even updating your linux distro isn't hard. Normally its done via apt-get which is even easier than installing from a .exe in windows. And if you don't update your windows, that leads me to believe that your computer is wide open for attack, seeing as there have been masssive security updates for it in the past few days, which leads me to my last point.

(and plus Linux is easy to crack, cause its not protected any way like Windows is) A properly setup linux box is almost 1000x more secure than a windows one, seeing as it isn't succeptable to any spreading virus out there, nor is the system easily compromised on the ROOT level. Windows is one of the most easily broken into systems, and the reason it needs so much protection is because windows programmers can't seem to close any holes before releacing programs.

RFB
