Umm first off I think I have a very general idea of what a domain is, but do I need one for my forum? I created all the categories and forums, but when a member signs in, nothing shows up, you can't post a topic. So am I right in guessing that I need to purchase a domain? I'm just confused because I am absolutely not computer literate in the least! I started googling after I figured out that I was completely lost and realized I think I own a domain, but it's registered with...ummm...Office Live. Does that count as a domain? And do I reeeally need a domain for a forum? (Haha, I am never do something like this again without knowing some legistics, I learned my lesson!) |

Oh, no no, you do not need to purchase a domain at all. A domain is something like invisionfree.com. You could purchase one only if you wanted to make it easier for your users to access your site (So they didn't have to type z8.invisionfree.com/yourboardname/ all the time). If your forums are not showing, it's because you have not set up your Permission Masks correctly. To do so, go to Admin CP -> Forum Control -> Permission Masks. Edit each user mask, giving the appropriate permissions.
Note that permissions do not affect or inherit from each other; giving a user START permissions does no good if they don't have READ permissions. Good luck! |
