Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to block users from registering 2 accounts on the same IP. I'd like to stick to one account per person on my forums!

Quantum-locked when observed.

No, there is no way to do that. Even if you could, it wouldn't be advisable, since IP addresses have a many-to-many relationship with people, not a one-to-one relationship.

There is nothing to stop a single person from registering one account using one computer, then go to another computer with a different IP address and register another account. Furthermore, most people's computers do not have a static IP address any more--their IP addresses change each time they connect to the Internet.

Many ISPs, such as AOL, use technology to assign one IP to multiple users. So you may inadvertently be preventing additional people from registering at your board. Similarly, it's possible for two people to use the same computer--if two siblings or roommates wanted to register, one would find him or herself unable to do so from the same computer.

It's difficult to track identities on the Internet and determine if one person has more than one account. Often all you can do is watch and see if their posting styles are similar, if the IP addresses are similar (which as explained above, isn't always the only indicator you should use), the email addresses, etc.
