Very interesting reading material you gave me Phrank, but I got one more question, if we live are lives and just die and end existince, why don't we just go and rape as many girls and woman as possible than go have a shooting spree and blow up a building, cause who need morals, we're just a bunch of pond scum anyways. Might as well live life to the fullest!
Forgive me if I offended anyone, but it's the truth...

Well if you consider living life to the fullest being able to go out a rape a bunch of women...Then I suppose if you don't believe in an afterlife you might do so. I don't believe in an afterlife but I do believe in living life to what I believe is the fullest i.e. making something of myself and actually doing something with my life. I don't have to believe in a god to decide for myself what I want to do with my life.

i believe in God. i believe that after death there are two places you'll end up in. you'll end up in "Heaven" or "Hell". it depends on what you believe in your life. if you believe that God is the creator of the universe and everything in it, and that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and that he is God's son, you will go to Heaven. :)

I thought that was a very nice movie.

It got bad reviews in a local newspaper over here.

"To see a man being beating like that made me sick"
"I couldn't even finish the moving without vomiting"
"No, no, no... two thumbs down, way too vilent"

and the list goes on :D

Yeah it's a real shame people can't face up to the truth. And to those of you thinking I'm talking about Jesus, not just Jesus but I am talking about anything. People have been tortured much worse.

I saw it and I liked it. Not for the relgious aspect but just for the whole story and just seeing how Mel portrayed everyone and everything. Just kept in mind that it was his view and all was fine for me :)

No, Spurius, I don't know the solar system's gravity created the Earth. :P
As I said, I don't even know that I exist when it comes down to it.
But probability comes into play, and while I don't actually know how the Earth came to be, I can make an estimated guess based on available information.
Of course, the available information could be wrong, or the Earth itself might not even exist, but for the sake of argument we could say it's infinitely more probable that the Earth formed in the same manner as observations tell us planets in other solar systems are currently forming, and that our calculations predict.

And TMASTER, as I said, you don't need the fear of god's wrath or the promise of some eternal reward or any belief in anything higher to know right from wrong and live in a good way.
There are actually a few good things to be found in all religions, mixed in with all the other stuff.
One of those which you're likely familiar with is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
A commandment from God on that isn't really necessary, as it should be common sense.
You treat people with respect and consideration and love and compassion and hope that they appreciate it and act in kind, and if enough people do that, it eventually comes back to you.
If everyone does whatever they want with no consideration of others, you have chaos.

It doesn't take a genius to realize that if you hurt or deprive somebody, they're going to end up hurting or depriving somebody else in response, and then they'll do the same, and so on and so on.
If you don't care about the chaos that will cause and the suffering of others, you should at least care that it will eventually come back around and somebody will hurt or deprive you or somebody you love.
So there's even a selfish reason for not being selfish.

Morals existed long before religion, and they'll exist long after.

Since it was sort of brought up, I figure I might as well point out that I've experienced evidence of past lives, as well as telepathy and dream travel, and other interesting things that don't match with any current scientific knowledge.
But I don't claim to believe in anything with certaintly, so that's not a problem for me. :)
I'm not an atheist, as I said, I just go by what makes sense to me and what I observe.

You seem to be using logic a lot as a premise for your beliefs, but I do not think that is too helpful when approaching a subject such as this.

I don't think it's too helpful to suspend reason for the sake of convenience or comfort.

I was not suggesting that,.......well......I was just saying that it is better to go with what you feel because this should always be what is right. Also a connection between you and God is based on this relationship i.e feeling.

I haven't really said this this topic, but I DO believe in God. I also believe in logic. I hate using this medaphor, but it's kind of like Santa Claus, Once you grow older, the logic of it just kind of goes away, because you realize it's very impossible for a fat guy to go around the world in just a few hours, going down everyone's chimney. Then you see some bad kids getting more presents than you, then good kids getting worse presents. It's like seeing a man get away with murder, then end up winning the lotery. And like seeing people who go to church every day, get their house burnt down, and having members of their family die. Then it's like, the only thing telling me there is a god is this extremely old book. Perhaps if I had some proof. Like if Jesus came to me, in broad daylight, and slaped me, then said "God is real" and disappeared, then i'd think "yeah, i'll keep being a Christian" but getting all the information on a religion from a book? No. It's like some fat guy going around everyone's chimney on one night. It simply can't be.
But for some reason, I don't know why, I still go to church, I still believe in God (if not just a little). I really hope their is a heaven, with no violence, no hurting, and no crappy movies. :P
