Not really. For one, the person that made the claim it was 'divinely-inspired' could be wrong. Secondly, I could go and add a page to my Bible now and claim it to be the word of God then distribute it.

If you're willing to water down scripture that way, then I'm not sure what common ground we even have to discuss it on.

*shurgs* I'm not trying to water it down, merely stating the reality. The Bible is a very important and sacred book, but I do not believe it should be taken line for line in a strictly literal manner, you have to be aware of the outside world and its effects on it throughout the thousands of years of its existence.

I personally don't see anything wrong with it as long as you aren't some kid having sex.

Technically, regardless of religion, you shouldn't be having sex before marriage. Sex was originally meant for reproduction after all.

I don't see anything wrong with having sex before marriage as long as you are not getting money for it, you are doing it with someone you really care about, you are protected, you have both been tested for STDs, you are not doing it with a family member, and you are not trying to have kids. If you want kids, get married or adopt.

Maybe for the animal kingdom.. but for us humans, I have to disagree.
Humans are animals. Sex is still meant for reproduction, we just happen to get pleasure out of it as well.

If dogs can be bred at a mere age of 2 (relative to 14 human years) than I see no reason to keep people from having sex. It's natural and nature shouldn't have limits or restrictions. Not everyone gets married; I definitely don't plan on it.

Just because we can sterilize ourselves doesn't mean sex's main purpose changes. You can sterilize a dog, but it's main purpose for sex is still reproduction, even if it is unable to function properly.

As it does for dolphins, chimpanzees and bonobos. The purpose of sex is reproduction. The fact that humans, among those other three species, can gain pleasure from it is nothing more than a bonus, for lack of a better word. Man made restrictions such as contraception do not change the purpose of sex, only enhance the bonus of it. Sterilization is the same.

And since this debate is off-topic, I'll make it relevant.

Because sex is meant for reproduction in any species of animal I don't believe society, religion, or morals should have any say in when it occurs as long as a person's body (and hopefully mentality) is mature enough. If sex is only being used for pleasure or intimacy, then I feel a person's maturity is a necessity.

I'll have to agree, Joey made a really good point. I don't understand why you need approval to have sex/ I mean if god really wanted us to wait until marriage, he'd give us our reproductive organs and such during that holy event... and I'm honestly not trying to be funny.

Edit I said during, I meant after.... :S
Also marriage didn't always exist x_x

How can you argue about the purpose of sex? It changes from person to person. From a technical standpoint, of course the primary purpose of sex is for reproduction.

Everyone has their own opinions on this matter.
I for one don't think it's wrong, but I am not a Christian. i am familiar with the viewpoints... but I don't think it is wrong if someone trusts their partner enough to want to do that. Another factoring matter is that the two people have to be educated enough to realize what sex means ans what they truly feel about the situation, not just do it because its 'cool' or anything.

I think aslong as two people are sensible about it, then there are no problems with sex outside of marriage. Myself, while have had a one night stand, don't think it is the right thing to do. I think if two people love eachother and want to express their love through sex then it's fine.
