Hi all, I've been reading up about the health benefits/disadvantages of moderate alcohol consumption ( ie. 1 glass a day ), which according to Wikipedia and a few other sites has immense health benefits ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-term_effects_of_alcohol & http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/alcoholandhealth.html ). However, I've just stumbled across these articles from the BBC's website that contradict this. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4491314.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/377381.stm I'm curious to know if anyone have any actual facts regarding alcohol consumption for 15 year olds? ( I'm assuming my body can handle a bit of alcohol, but you can'y be too careful )Thanks in advance ![]() Callum, Edited by callumevans324, Jul 26 2008, 09:08 PM.

Everyone's going to drink it at some point, as long as you're not drinking absolutely insane amounts every day then you should be fine. |

Rofl. I guess I'm being pointless right now then? Is it not possible that some people enjoy the taste of it? Because if you say no, you are wrong. I am drinking coke mixed with like a half a shot of whiskey because I happen to like it like that. But getting drunk is fun too, don't get me wrong ![]() I remember hearing that moderate wine consumption can decrease the chance of heart disease or something. Too bad I don't really care if what I am doing to myself is healthy or not, otherwise I'd go look it up for ya ![]() If you do like me, and drink 22 drinks in a short period of time and end up passing out in your friends basement, you probably aren't doing your body any favors. Might wanna keep that in mind. Edited by Bry, Jul 26 2008, 11:42 PM.

Drinking within the guideline limits isn't going to affect your body in the long term (2-3 units per night for men over 18). Getting copiously drunk once in a while isn't going to affect you much either - you'll just have a massive hangover in the morning and you'll look like crap. As you said, some people believe a glass of a red wine a day can actually help the body, but I don't think many people drink for the health benefits it might have, so it doesn't really matter. The main thing with alcohol is to keep yourself under control. If you have too much and lose all inhibitions you will make yourself look like a prat and the only person who won't remember it is yourself (which may or may not be a good thing). |

Because it's fun? Just like people risk their lives to get thrills from skydiving, driving over the speed limit, etc. People like you must lead such boring lives if you abide by every legal, moral and ethical rule and and live on the medical 'advice' you get from the media. If it was left up to you we'd all live on a plain, flat field with nothing else in it except a crane to support you so you don't fall over and graze your knee. Also, I'm cutting out those articles from your post and leaving the links. No need to copy and paste three whole articles like that. |

Drinking alcohol is fine as long as you don't overdo it...getting drunk occasionally probably will do nothing more serious than make you look like an idiot. People who drink it for the so-called "medical benefits" are just using it as an excuse to support their addiction. Any benefit that alcohol might give you can be gotten in greater quantities with something else (for example, red wine is praised for its antioxidants but red grapes contain way, way more). |

I personally don't drink as I can have fun and be hyper without it, but it's fine, as long as you have it in small amounts. My friends always drink to have fun and it's pretty pathetic to be honest, so don't become dependant on it to have a laugh on the weekends or at parties or whatever. It makes you look/be boring without it. It also makes you stink when you're drinking it but yeah, having a little is fine.

No, we'd be living for the moment rather than relying on mind altering substances to have fun. Sorry, I'd rather not comsume something that kills someone every 31 minutes. This includes people who haven't even had a drop of it, being killed by the actions of other(s) [read: idiots] who decide to operate a vehicle after fact. Also thanks for cutting the articles due to your personal agenda and not based on the forum rules in the least.

You still sound seriously boring. We don't rely on alcohol to have fun, it's just another way of having fun. |

Thanks for that. Isn't it almost flaming? I'm not boring, you're just proving you don't know me. |
