I took half of a programming class last year, don't ask for details, and learned a bit of VB. I have made several small programs that really do nothing. I deleted my VB when I had to wipe my hard drive and realized that VB 2008 was free. Now I want to create a program, but I don't know what it should do! Any suggestions? Someone I know suggested a skin converter from IF to Zeta and then work from there. What say? Edited by Lone Stranger, Aug 6 2008, 07:07 PM.

A skin converter would be more suitable as a web application rather than a standalone program that one would run on one's computer. You could try making one of the classic arcade games--i.e., Pong, Space Invaders, Snake (I made a pretty good Snake in Turing). Games are often a good way to get a grasp on a language. When you program, you need to design the program first, and that requires that you figure out the features and the rules. Since games like Pong and Snake already have the rules, all you have to do is figure out how to implement those rules in the language (in this case, Visual Basic), then spice it up with some graphics. For some more useful programs, you could try a billing program or a to-do list application, |

Well, the skin converter I may do, but I am not sure if I can get it to work as needed. I was going to learn how to make Pacman, but I never got that far in class. (I got as far as beginning a loop, so I learned how to make a virus and that's it XD) I did a to-do list application in that class; it was pretty darn good. As for the billing program, I wonder what features I could add... but then, I could try putting them altogether. :-/ |
