I am soon to create a massive video game with a few friends. However, I have very little knowledge on how to program a visual video game. Can someone point me toward some good "young adult friendly" programming web sites? Please put what the site is about in the post and the web site in a pm to me. |

When I made my own game with friends I used http://www.realmcrafter.com/store/home.php Realm Crafter. Very simple to use, is cheap for the service it offers and works well with little scripting. Of course you learn scripting as you go along doing it. You learn by doing really, RPGMaker VX (Google) Is also good for game making and various scripts. Sorry I can't help more directly. |

I really cannot use code generators. I prefer to program in raw code. Also, I use Ubuntu 8.04 on my brand new dell laptop (just arrived yesterday) It is a civ 4-like game. Edited by Ash of InvisionFree, Sep 23 2008, 04:49 PM.

Well, first, you need to consider how to set up and handle the following: - Stat holding - Interface handling (if you choose not to use an interface library like wx) - Collision and terrain handling - Much, much, much, much (like, * 10 ^ 100) more. I've been working on a game with a single friend (who has yet to constribute much) and I have to say that, though it is an astounding goal to code a game from scratch that is meant to be massive, it is possible, even by a single person. When it comes to terrain and collision handling, I really suggest using a tile system. This makes things a whole lot easier. Also, I'd be happy to give any tips, should need it. As for resources, I suggest: http://cplusplus.com, if you are using C/C++. http://gamedev.net, a forum dedicated entirely to the creation of games. Google, of course! |
