HP Sucks

I highly recommend that you never buy a HP computer.

I recently sent my HP laptop in to get the motherboard replaced (which they said would be free) and they call me a week later and said it would cost $450 so I asked them to just send it back. When I got it back the screen was cracked, so I called them and talked for over an hour, and finally they said once again that they would fix it for free. Now I just got a call saying it would cost $1000 to fix it even though they broke it. So in short Screw 'em.

Edit

I just googled "HP Sucks" and I wish I had done so before I bought one.

Mine was free so no complaints from me. Though I've heard their support is horrible.

They will have to pay for the screen if you had shipping insurance. If not it's a lost cause if you don't want to spend that much on it. My HP desktop always gave me problems when I used it so now I just use my MacBook Pro for everything. ^_^

The shipping was paid for by HP, so I don't think there was insurance.

But I think I am going to just build me a comp. Any suggestions of places to get parts?

Satisfaction, I think, is largely a case-by-case situation. I have had two Dell computers (my home desktop, and my laptop). Both I have had exceptional use of, with no trouble really. But I know others who have had issues with their Dells.

Good luck with your next though. :P

For future reference, I'd research about the company first. Find out their user satisfaction rates or other types of records. Oh, and DEFINITELY have a read through their policy. The one thing that you would not like could be in the small print. I feel your pain, I've been through similar issues, but in this case - you can only learn from what's happened. :/

I am not much of a fan of HP, but they're products are decent. My HP laptop from 2001 to 2005 worked perfectly until the screen just randomly died. Our warranty hadn't expired yet during the time of the incident, so we sent it in, and they refused to fix it, saying that the screen had cracked and only the manufacturers warranty would cover it, and they said we didn't have it. I had the manufacturers warranty, and by the time they sent it back(one and a half months later), the manufacturers warranty was over. And the build quality of the laptop wasn't that good. I believe HP owns Compaq, and my main machine is a Compaq desktop that I bought in 2003, and it's averagely fast. It's not EXTREMELY fast, but it is faster than most computers I use during the day(from school, my dad's laptop, my mom's laptop, etc...). My dad had a Compaq laptop, and the case had a giant crack on the bottom near the CPU and RAM, so he sent it back, and it came back with a new bottom casing. Three weeks later, it cracked again in the same spot in a similar pattern. HP-Compaq's desktops are very good, but I wish I could say the same for their laptops.

Yep, before I bought my laptop, everyone was like... don't go with dell, they suck, but I've had this for two / three years now and no problems - still keeping up on default everything too. It just depends if you're lucky to be completely honest. :)
