Right, so I downloaded eclipse for a jave IDE, but unlike other programs, it exists in a folder. I have my applications folder on my quick launch bar, but eclipse doesn't really work for it. I have to click a folder, which opens finder, and then I have to find the file to launch it. Really boring. Basically, is there a way to make a shortcut icon? Put the application there, but have a clickable icon that will open up the program instantaneously. Kind of like windows when you go rightclick>new>shortcut OR Do you know a java IDE that is good for mac, and opens with just one file xD Something similar to JCreator would be ideal, however I'm only going to be using mac for quick stuff during lectures, my assignments and stuff will be left to JCreater ![]() Oh yea, and google is not my friend for this haha. I can only get results of keyboard shortcuts, even when I add in -keyboard. xD Edited by lightsilver, Oct 2 2008, 07:06 PM.

Our way of 'shortcuts' on OS X is also by copying and pasting the application file. I'm not sure what you mean by 'quick launch', I assumed it was the dock. But you could be talking about the sidebar on Finder. As far as I know, if you just drag the application into 'quick launch' or the Dock, it will load up fine. (I just tried with Photoshop CS3). Let me know if I'm wrong. |

Yea, I meant dock, quick launch just seems more appropriate so I thought it was that So there's no such thing as an actual shortcut? Because the application is in a folder, more like a windows program. Oh well, I guess it's just one thing I'll have to suffer through I am rather enjoying OS X though

The Dock pretty much works as a shortcut. I understand what you're trying to do and I said, I tried with CS3 and it works fine. Simply head into the Applications folder, find your app folder, and drag the app icon to the Dock. Simple as this:

But what I mean is welll... ok, the shortcut in the dock you have for photoshop, I have that, only for the applications folder. When I click on it, I see a bunch of applications. For eclipse it's a folder, so in order for it to work I'd have to click on the folder to open finder. It's the opening finder stage I was trying to skip ![]() I guess I can just use spotlight for that then

I think I know what you mean. The only other thing I can suggest is to drag the app icon into the sidebar in Finder and just run it from there. |
