Very Slow Internet

Since I got this, my internet connection has gotten really frustratingly slow, and I can't figure out what the problem could possibly be?

I've got everything plugged in, tried to "Repair" the connection and there's nothing wrong with the router connected to my tower or the receiver in the other room. With my previous laptop the connection was average, but now for some reason it's really slow. I'm hoping I don't have to get a new router. :-/

It might be the router, it may not. If your network is open, that could lead to other people always using your internet connection, which would slow your connection down in turn. It could also be signal problems, as I know I've had that problem multiple times.

It's a private network, though. :-/

Then it is password protected/encrypted? That's a little strange. I'm not sure then.

Do you have anti-virus software installed? Try disabling it.

1. Try the PC connected directly to the modem. See if the problem still exists.
2. Are there other PCs in the house? Are they experiencing the same problem?
3. Boot the PC into Safe Mode with Networking and see if the problem still occurs.
4. Try replacing network cables if it is wired connection.
5. Reinstall/Update the appropriate drivers for your network card.
6. Download and install Wireshark to monitor the network activity and see if there are unauthorized users.

Let me know what you come up with.

Are there any other computers using the router during the night?

Nope - but anyway it's fine now. If it's slow on my computer then it's slow on the main one.

The internet only gets slower during the night. :blink: During the day it's fine.
At busier times of the day (i.e. 17:00 onwards), when people are home, more people will logon the internet, causing lag with your ISP and your local telephone exchange centre; the more people using the exchange, the slower the internet connection;

So it's very possible that it's slower at night because it's generally a busy time for internet users.

Hmm, perhaps your ISP is doing upgrades to the network or something... :)
