Yes, in about an hour we have our final debate between John McCain and Barack Obama. How many times will McCain say "my friends" ? How long can Obama stutter for? How many times will William Ayers be brought up (enough to be the drinking word?) Will Obama play by the debate rules this time? Will McCain "finally" let the whole preconditions thing go? Find out this and more tonight in the fight of the century! |

So Joe the Plumber almost became the new drinking word. I'm disappointed. No "my friends" yet. |

LOL! I like that one. Unfortunately, it seems as if McCain is stuttering more so far. |

I just hope both candidates actually make something of this debate. The last was a fairly big disappointment, and I'm disappointed I'm missing this one because of homework.

Quite good thus far. They had a heated debate over the negative ads. |

I think we can all agree that Joe the plumber won the debate. Other than that, congratulations president Obama. McCain didn't win the debate, couldn't rationalize the Ayers/ACORN attacks, and after having a pretty good first half hour, crashed and burned. Every day Obama banks votes in early-voting states, including places like Ohio in North Carolina. It is quite possibly it is too late for the change in the election that McCain needs to occur. I'm shocked. YouTube already has stuff. It is very likely that we will discuss this debate in class tomorrow. |

I am still highly against Obama. In the first 10-15 minutes, he not only contradicted himself but lied. His education ideas are blah. He complains about people going into debt for college. Well I am sorry to say it Obama, but this has been going on since the first American university. There are plenty of scholarship programs out there already that ANYONE could get. The sad fact is that people: 1. don't care enough to go to college; 2. expect the government to pay for their college education; 3. are too lazy to work for all the scholarships and such that you can possibly get. This one girl who graduated just because me actually was getting paid to go to college. She worked for so many scholarships that she was getting $300 a month spending cash, after taxes and paying for necessities such as food, just because she tried. Most scholarships, the $100-500 ones, are as simple as writing an essay. Really now, why should our taxes pay for your college education? |

Those few hundred dollar essays are barely enough to cover the price of books, let alone enough classes to get even an associates degree. I don't see what is so wrong with some public money being set aside for kids who are unable to afford college. |

I didn't even notice Obama's stuttering until two weeks ago. At least not enough to actually be bothered by it. I thought McCain started off surprisingly well. Around the middle though he had his ups and downs, then just fell off for the better part of the second half. His little eye rolls were annoying, though the amount of smiling from Obama was even more so.

That one guy
|
I have a friend, a national merit scholar, who is from the 'heartland of America' as they love to say. He attends USC and will have approximately $100,000-120,000 in college loans by the time he graduates (after four years). That strikes me as a blatant problem. I think what needs to happen is a fundamental change, again as both candidates like to say, in how we look at college. Our education is going to heavily impact our economy and as a result of that, our national security. Now this friend of mine sought many scholarships, and earned many of them, but he was not eligible for many and if everyone is seeking these scholarships then they will cease to be available. I think that the price of college needs to be lowered, first of all. There was a time in our nation where more grants were available for college goers, as opposed to loans. If we find it necessary to go the direction of loans, we need to make sure we encouraging people to attend college by making loans available to everyone who needs them. Switching gears. During the Fact-Check following the Debate, I found it interesting that McCain did indeed have a higher percentage of negative campaign ads (73 to Obama's 65). I also thought that on NBC's coverage with Ann Curry, the comment made by one of the Virginia women was true. I am so tired of the rhetoric the campaigns and supporters are spewing trying to defame each candidate. I felt that question was interesting, but I think there are more important matters to discuss. That was more for the entertainment-seeking viewers, in my opinion. We need a fundamental adjustment in what we accept from our politicians. Speaking about that sort of thing, I did not feel that McCain should have chosen the method he did in this debate, attempting to mock and ridicule Obama by continually suggesting that Obama's word choice was any more significant than his own. He uses the same methods, so it is hypocritical and insulting, to me, that he is trying to dupe people into believing that assertion. My last point before I conclude my posts is the current balance assessment by Msnbc's fact checkers places McCain's deficits after four years higher than Obama's. I think that bears import when one of his main points is the extreme spending he accuses Obama of. |
