Why, do the poor not deserve a second chance? That seems pretty selfish.

Well I am not at all impressed with his first two choices for his cabinet.

Change indeed. :(

I was really thrilled to be woken with the news that Obama will become the most powerful man in the world in January. It's in good hands. What he decides to do with the markets collapsing will directly affect the rest of the world so I hope he does a good job.

And then there was Nader. :)

Ralph Nader repulsively racist.

I heard about his first, but who is the second?

I think that whether his cabinet is new or old, it is best to have people he believes will do the job effectively and efficiently. The better our leadership is, the better the country will be.

Robert Gibbs will be the press secretary. He led Obama's PR during the campaign, I believe.

Twilight is upon me, and soon night must fall.

And there is talk of keeping Gates as Defense Secretary. It's not such a crazy thing for Obama to want to keep the competent people and use their experience with the past administration and the policies enacted. It's a like a wedding. Something old, something new...

In any case, I am not happy with the outcome of this election, but in my opinion, both candidates were mediocre choices. The one that won wants to spread his mediocrity to everyone by taking from the rich, and the other wanted to keep mediocrity exactly where it was, with the poor. So yeah...

And then there was Nader. :)
OMG NADER :D

Well, I think taking from the rich is the lesser of the two evils. The rich have plenty to spare, while the poor have had a hard time these last 8 years.

I am absolutely not saying the poor do not deserve a second chance. But I don't think this is a good way to do it. You can't tell millions of people that they're literally being stolen from because they're more successful than others. And logical fallacies like "there are no other ways" don't make me consider this one a good way either.
I completely support alleviating the plight of the poor, but only in such a time that someone comes forward with an idea that truly makes sense.

Read the first comment, and the second comment under that video. I wrote up a small paragraph but that pretty much summed it up. :P

Last time I looked, the government increasing taxes on individuals was NOT "literally being stolen from"...

Uncle Tom is most definitely a racist term:
Wikipedia

Uncle Tom is a pejorative for a black person who is perceived by others as behaving in a subservient manner to White American authority figures, or as seeking ingratiation with them by way of unnecessary accommodation.

Urban Dictionary

A black man who will do anything to stay in good standing with "the white man" including betray his own people

Merriam Webster.com

a black who is overeager to win the approval of whites (as by obsequious behavior or uncritical acceptance of white values and goals)

Could it be used to describe anyone beholden to some other group? I guess, but when its used to describe a black man that raises several red flags, especially when its coming from someone who earlier accused Obama of "talking white". I don't blame Nader however, stuff like this is all he can to to stay at least semi-relevant in an America increasingly ignoring him. And as for that .5% of the vote.... well there's always 2012 right?

In other news, Omaha (NE-2) has been called for Obama, raising his grand total a whole electoral vote to 365. The only remaining contest to be called is Missouri, which will likely go to McCain.

You know, I don't know where this will fit into this topic, but I'll share a little thing my dad once said. He said that, when the bailout happened, it would have been cheaper for the government to give everyone 1 million dollars, AND it would jumpstart the economy much better.

Just throwing in some two cents since we're discussing helping the poor and stuff. Again I'm not really sure where this fitted in, but why not say it?

No offense, but your dad isn't an economist. I wont say that we handled it the best we could, but simply giving everyone some money isn't the solution and would probably deflate the value of our dollar hugely, causing even more problems.

Well, based on the current US population from the CIA world factbook, that would work out to about a 303 Trillion dollar bailout.

But IMO the premise is sound... if everyone in the US was given 10,000 dollars it would jumpstart the economy and would not burden the economy any more than the bailout did.
