Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I can think of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Anyone going anywhere tonight?

I might be off to watch a fireworks display, but that depends on a certain someone else going. :$

Who's having their own display, or bonfire? I have no garden so I can't do much.

I'm surprised at the lack of fireworks being set off, I've only heard three in the run up to tonight.

I used to love having fireworks and a bonfire in our back garden, but nowadays my family and I don't fancy standing out in the rain watching a fire burn. :P

I have no doubt though that the constant bangs will keep my poor dog barking all night though. :(

Anyone want to give me the 30 second description of what Guy Fawkes night commemorates?

I cannot STAND this moronic 'holiday'. I am so sick and tired of fireworks during any time of the year, really. They go at the early hours waking people up, people leave rubbish all over the place, and they terrify animals so badly. I have to drug my poor dog later because without being utterly zonked out, she's a wreck. It's the poor thing's birthday today too :P

So my female cat Mog, who only ever comes home for food before hissing at the male new kitty Eli, and running out the catflap, is being kept indoors tonight because of the fireworks.

I shut the catflap, went to town earlier, came home and my nets are ripped to shreds, $##*ing stuff tipped everywhere off the windowsills.. a state.

Mog is constantly sat there growling and hissing at me and Eli, Eli won't stop following her around so it's just gonna go on forever.

I feel bad for Mog but I don't want some kids to tie a rocket to her tail and shut her in a wheelie bin to explode, which tends to happen alot this time of year.

I hope they settle or I'm gonna end up murdering them both myself.

I wouldn't exactly class it as a holiday. Happy birthday to your dog. :P

I don't mind having a bonfire and a few fireworks of my own, but do find displays to be boring. However, if the lady wants to go I shall follow.

I don't know about 30 seconds but, http://www.bonfirenight.net/gunpowder.php and http://www.bonfirenight.net/bonfire.php

If someone decided to do that these days it would be classed a something much different, and not celebrated.

Haven't heard/seen all that many fireworks this evening, or in fact lately to be honest. Last year there were hundreds; the year before that there were thousands.

Are fireworks getting unpopular these days?
Are people realising how unsafe they can be if not handled with care and deterred from setting any off due to accidents seen in the past?
Or maybe the credit crunch has something to do with it, and people can't afford as many any more?

The final question is my most believed speculation really.

Most likely no-one can afford them. Not as many gardens where lit up this year though, but there was a large turnout at the display.

It was a free-for-all driving back from that. :D

I much rather would have stayed in and watched tv.

Man, I went crazy today at school and nobody knew what the significance of November the fifth was.

._.

This is one of those times when I believe I was supposed to be born across the pond yet nature did not cooperate with me. D:<
