Opera...; What's so bad with Opera?

Now I've noticed that not a lot of people actually use this awesome browser.

I've grown very fond of Opera and use it as my default browser but I can't seem to think why not a lot of people actually use it.

According to this website: http://secunia.com/advisories/product/10615 Opera 9.x is supposed to be the most secure web browser out of the latest of I.E., Firefox, Opera, Safari and Konqueror (whatever that one is...) and it is said to have no Security Holes.

I may be making a big mistake here by using this browser so tell me why you think another browser is better. I think it's the best out the lot and has lots of options in order to make work and browsing less time-consuming.

Konqueror is the default browser on Linux distros. It's based on the KHTML engine...that's about the extent of my knowledge about it, since I only used it for a week or two while dabbling in some linux server administration!

Just be careful with topics like this, because they'll soon become flame wars.

I use FF. Not for rendering speed (slightly less than Chrome) and not for cleanliness and security (slightly less than Opera) and not for its widespread web support (less than IE), but because of its friendliness. It's got so many plugins and such a great UI that I feel at home with it, more than I do with any application on my computer. :)

Most people will probably use Firefox over Opera because of the extensions and themes. Firefox gives the user a lot of power to make Firefox "theirs." Where Opera has limited add-on capabilities.

Others will use Firefox over Opera because they don't know Opera exists. Those who are not computer savvy and use IE are told by experienced users to switch to Firefox and not Opera. FF has more word of mouth support than Opera.

I, for one, prefer the Gecko rendering engine used by Firefox over the Presto rendering engine used by Opera.

EDIT: Also, there is no such thing as a program with no security holes. There is a saying, "Every program has one security issue. When this issue is found and fixed, the statement is still true."

I use Opera because it's just so ... quick. The pages load faster for me than any other browser I have used, I love the MouseGestures, I love the speed dial ... it's just amazing. I love the fact that I can use IRC without having to download another program, and I don't have to switch programs to talk on IRC - it's all there! I love the fact that I can just click anywhere at the tabs bar twice and a new window opens up - a small thing, but I hate that IE doesn't have that ability.

Now as for FF and IE. People use FF because everyone says to use FF because everyone knows IE sucks and crashes all the time. Nobody really knows about Opera that much, but they really should. Whenever someone sees that I am using Opera (Friends at my house or whatnot), I explain to them why I use Opera, and then for the most part, they tend to switch over.

Also, I love that you can change skins, but IE and FF have that aswell, however I just like the Opera skins more. I also like how theres more page space - the buttons/tabs at the top of the screen are much shorter than the buttons/tabs in IE.

Overall Opera > FF > IE.

I just didn't like Opera. I don't really know why, there was something a little squirrely about it that just made me go... ick.

Exactly the same here. I used it for like a week, but it just felt wrong. It's faster, yet I don't feel comfortable with it. Maybe I'm way too used to Firefox, but I do need my extensions, I need spell-check and I love how it feels to use FF. More friendly in my opinion; Opera is just way too overdone for me.

I agree entirely with that post (particularly the bold part). :D

I use Firefox over Opera because I like how Firefox renders web pages. I did once used Opera for three or so months, but then I came back to try Firefox and fell in love with it, I then tried to go back to Opera after a year using Firefox and I just couldn't.
I will be keeping my eye on Google Chrome because I liked it and was ready to replace Firefox with it until I noticed a bug (including SilverLight) with it.

I used to use it but it felt different, I suppose. I still prefer FF over anything else. Of course, it could use more plugins I want. :(

Right now I have Fx, Opera, Chrome and IE. In terms of speed, Chrome > Opera > Fx > IE. However, just speed doesn't get a browser anywhere. It has to render things properly, the less security holes the better, and overall customization and compatibility plays a factor, so it all depends on preference. I prefer Firefox over Opera (since that's what we're talking about) because of what FearKiller said, Firefox just gives it users a more comfortable feel and I can install any theme or extension I want to (limited to what's available of course) to reflect me I guess. Opera not so much, nor Chrome, IE, etc. I'd have to say though that if something doesn't work with Firefox for some reason, Opera is definitely my runner-up browser.

Not every Linux distro will have Konqueror as default. It's the most common on KDE GUI systems (i.e. Kubuntu) But on GRONE and other Linux distros Firefox (or a broswer based on Firefox such as Iceweasel) will be more common.

I don't mind Opera... it's just that I don't love it. I love Firefox. I love Chrome. I even have a nostalgic "family member you really don't want to be around but have to" feeling for Internet Explorer. But Opera is just... well... Nicola explains it nicely.
