I found a few quotes that comment on murder--mostly I find they comment on our distortion of it and acceptance of it in some form or other.Oscar Wilde Aldous Huxley Jack Benny What are your thoughts on these ideas or alternative ideas that you can think of? |

I have to do an essay on the conflicts between modern attitudes to murder, and how they have evolved through the ages. I thought it would be interesting to discuss with everyone.

Those are definitely some interesting quotations. My favourite is Benny's.

Well first you will need to define murder, You have "MEAT IS MURDER!" people, You have (now in Switzerland) basically saying to pick a flower from the side of the road is murder (I might be excruciating a bit but I'm not fully sure), You have ancient languages when translated go to "Kill" yet modern definitions "murder" would be more fitting (see 10 commandments) Before you could talk about murder and modern attitudes you will first need to find what you want to get across and use at lease one definition (if you are going to debate the other definitions). I would suggest you also look for something by Plato, Aristotle, and John Locke Plato and Aristotle (If I recall correctly) look for universal truths where John Locke basically states that we can agree on things like "sweet" but not "modesty" The three have heavily influenced the West, it's philosophies, and in Locke's case it's governments. |
