Ok, I was thinking about this for a couple of days now. Evolution comes from, in nature, a combination of natural and sexual selection. And for purpose of this discussion, just for the sake of discussion, assume natural and sexual selection to be true. Participating in this doesn't mean you don't believe in God if it's theoretical anyway. There are already evolution v.s creation topics if that's what you wish to discuss ![]() What I was thinking about, is this. Statistically woman who are less educated have more children. Statistically two people who share genes have a more similar IQ then two randomly selected people. Studies suggest intelligence is likely to be somewhat genetic (even if you were to base the intelligence from emotion(if you really want to know what I mean by this, you can ask)). So, if statistically people who are having a higher education are having less children, and people with a lower education are having more children, do you think there is a possibility of a gradual decline in the intellective of the human race? I mean, it would make sense, but over a very long period of time. I mean there's no way to actually measure or test this with humans, for many obvious reasons. Not only the human rights issues, but the not-being-able-to-measure-intelligence issue. So, what do you think about this? This holds no significant purpose to anything, I don't know if it's ever been brought up before, I just thought a general discussion to get you thinking would be a nice addition to brain juice... rather than the unlimited amount of religious debates going on here. |

Umm i think the less intelligent humans would probably die more easily while the intelligent humans have a higher chance of survival. So it doesn't really matter if the less intelligent beings have more children since theoretically they should die out over time. |

I said less inelegant, not stupid. Besides, society is set up in such a way that a stupid human can live a LOT easier than a stupid, say, rabbit could. Plus I think we have reached a time, where for humans I think natural selection is basically came to a hilt. You don't need to be extremely fit to eat anymore. The need for physical strength is slowly becoming closer obsolete. Of coarse I don't think it ever will go away, but you don't need muscles. You can live a perfectly good life, born in a wheel chair. You can live a completely safe life being blind or deaf (not as safe as everyone else, clearly, but it doesn't necessarily cause day to day hazards as if we were living in non-civilized times, before guns, and weapons. Also, if you have two people, one who went to post-secondary education, another doesn't, the one who didn't go to post-secondary is not going to die because they didn't It doesn't at all mean that. So stupid people aren't going to die out because they're stupid. (some will, but others won't, same goes for very intelligent people, being intelligent doesn't mean survival) |

I think you have a good point, but I think the difference will be pretty small anyways. No major difference will occur. |

I think what matters most when it comes to being productive with technology is luck. You can be as smart as you want, but if you don't call the right shots, you won't get anywhere. What's most important in our society is that people make an effort and try to achieve. All you need to be able to do is read, write and comprehend complex math. After that, any other intelligence doesn't come in much handy... unless you're dealing with something new that doesn't have plans and programs yet. Besides, geniuses are anomalies anyway, right? |
