The braces will hurt for awhile but you will feel no pain after awhile.
I got braces and now i'm used to having braces and the pain has gone.

I had braces when I was younger. I got them on in about the 3rd grade and got them off somewhere in the middle of the 8th grade. They hurt for the first few days, and feel uncomfortable for a while after. I remember my teeth sort of feeling like mush everytime they got tightened. They felt softer and you can't really bite into anything. Try eating things like yogurt, mashed potatoes, cheese, spaghetti, noodles, etc. Anything that you don't really need to bight into should be fine. After that you get really used to it. As far as things you shouldn't eat, the orthodontist will usually give you a list of rules with a million great foods on them that you're not supposed to eat. It's fine for you to eat gum, I've never had that pull a bracket off. Things like starburst and now-and-later are things that you should really stay away from though, just because they're so dang sticky. I actually had a retainer in the buttom of my mouth for a few months at one point and litterally yanked the whole left side out with a Now and Later. Most foods that they list on those things should be ok though. They usually put them down just to be 'safe', but you'll be fine either way. Also, when you brush, make sure to pay special attention to the areas under the litter wires running across your teeth. Lots of food can get caught in there easily. Also make sure to brush your gums a lot. It's sometimes harder to brush them with the braces on, but if you ignore them they will get big and puffy and it's really gross. Just make sure to brush really well. A lot of times after you have the brackets on for so long, when you finally get them off, you will see that your teeth will have yellow spots on them where the brackets were, and that's the only way I can think to avoid that. Usually the orthodontist will let you pick which color you want your brackets to be. (I always got dark blue. :P) Where I went, they had some clear ones that almost looked invisible. Don't get those ones! They look really nice for a while but after that they get dirty and it's impossible to completely clean them. You're better off with a solid color. If you have to wear rubberbands, make sure to actually wear them when you're supposed to. (Granted, they will hurt for a while.) If you don't do that you just extend the whole process because it doesn't help your overbite unless you wear them. Keep magnets away from your braces. (I've had some experiences with that. :r ) Other than that, you should feel fine in a couple of days and you'll be able to eat pretty much everything. :)

That turned into an awful long post. Braces really aren't that bad. They don't physically bother you. It's just the idea of actually having something on my teeth that drove me insane. :P

Yes, that was a huge post Trav. :P

Nope, I've never had braces, and hopefully never will. I've got pretty straight teeth. My only teeth problem is getting/keeping them clean. :spork:

I currently have them. Although I should be getting them off soon! Yay! I actually don't mind them, but then again I am slightly insane!

I'm going to have to have braces to first pull out my teeth which have gone too far back in, then braces to push them back in.
And I've had 2 root canals so far - the dentists chair is badly scratched. :D
