Is there a way to restrict new members from getting full member features until they post an introduction?

You could create a new group, move new members to that group and set up auto promotion after x amounts of posts, remembering course that their first posts could be in a reply to a topic rather than a welcome unless you post a forum rule stating that their first post should be a welcome

  • If it is a new forum do this:

Take the existing first group that a registered member goes to when they register.
    We renamed it ''LURKING MEMBER''.
(do not make this a newly created one or you will have to do it manually in the ACP or with a member auto tool after their first post)

Limit all forum viewing/posting options to just the INTRODUCTIONS board.
Be sure to set the promotion to the next member group at one post.

Now all they will see on your forum is what you want them to until they post an introduction.

  • We decided to do this AFTER the board was up and had a bunch of members so we did it differently.
This way we did not have to manually move existing new members (100+ at that time) who had posted to the next new group and does give the newly registered member the ability to read the boards they could not as a guest (most boards are set as viewing but not reading for guest).

We set up a new member group that IF they do not post an intro during their first visit as is stated during the registration process we then move them with a 'member auto tool' (this tool shows up in members profiles and can be made to send a PM, when it changes their member group status,as to why they have been moved and now have restricted forum permissions)

They now only can see the one board, the INTRODUCTIONS board.

We then , after an introduction, use another member auto tool which changes their viewing member group status and sends a thank you PM to the next group.

We have found once you manually move a member to a new group the auto promote to the next posting group does not work.
