For christmas I talked to my dad about buying me a new computer, I was thinking of either a Dell or an Apple computer, here are the ones I've thought of getting:

Dell Dimension B100:
Intel Celeron D Processor 325 (2.53 GHz, 533 FSB)
Windows XP Home Edition
Integrated Intel® GMA 900 Video Card
512MB DDR SDRAM at 400MHz
80GB2 Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive
Single Drive: 48x CD-RW / DVD-ROM Combo Drive
15 inch E153FP Analog Flat Panel
Dell A425 30 Watt 2.1 Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer
---
579.99

Apple iMac G5:
17-inch widescreen LCD
1.9GHz PowerPC G5
512MB memory (533MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
160GB Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load 8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon X600 Pro with 128MB DDR video memory
---
1299.99

Apple iBook Laptop:
1.33GHz PowerPC G4
512K L2 cache @1.33GHz
512MB memory (DDR333 SDRAM)
12.1-inch TFT Display
1024x768 resolution
ATI Mobility Radeon 9550
32MB DDR video memory
40GB Ultra ATA hard drive
Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
Built-in AirPort Extreme
Built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
Scrolling Trackpad
Sudden Motion Sensor
---
999.99

Out of those three choices which do you recommend? Also if I were to get the Dell, when Windows Vista came out do you think if I installed it onto my computer would it still run smoothy or will I need some hardware upgrades? Thanks for your advice.

What will you be using this for?

You could probably build your own for a lot cheaper so be sure to weight that option :P

I use my computers for forums, lots of music, graphics, talking to friends, pictures, and things like that, I really never use my computer for gaming, and I don't really want to build a computer, if I did I wouldn't have made this topic. ;)

If you're willing to spend up to to $1299.99 on an Apple why not on a Dell? I'd go with any of the first three Dells listed here and customize one to suit your needs.

If you are not going to build your own (though I would recommend it, because you can get a much better computer for the same price) than you should go with a Dell.

For all you who recommend Dell over iMac please state why you think so, IMO Macs are much better in overall quality then any kind of Dell [Not the XPS's Though].

Go with a Dell, Macs really aren't worth anything, the hardware isn't that great, but hte OS on them is better than XP. Most likely you don't care about the OS, if you did you'd know what to get and what to load on it, so windows and a Dell should be perfectly fine for oyu :)

Macs do not have a whole lot of good games.

Go dell for games, g5 if you want strictly graphics and web.
