Seems like ive asked this before... lol...

What do you guys recommend for a Graphics Card?

I was looking at the 7800gt... but im not sure which one would be best...

I've got about $400 dollars in hand to play with, all for the card itself.

Just wanted to hear your oppinions on the best GFx card.

*also... i have PCI-E x 16

I would be using the system for gaming and graphic design mainly... with the normal amount of heavy websurfing... lol

I would say dual Nvidia 6800s and unlock the extra 4 pipelines. Or if you can afford it then DEFINATELY get 7800gts as they are the best there is.

7800GT is a beauty.

Don't worry about SLI of course as it isn't really worth it.

I've got my 7800GT running with a 512Mb RAM stick and it does decent, although paired with 1Gb+ it would be flawless.

I have the EVGA by the way ;)

If you have $400 grab a 7800GT without a doubt. I'd go with eVGA or BFG, both are overclocked and come with lifetime warranties.

@ Nitroxide: Two 6800s, even with the extra pipelines unlocked won't be quite as good as a 7800GT, plus it'll cost more. Especially since he would need a new motherboard.

I agree - grab a 7800GT and don't worry about SLI.

what will you be doing? I'd recommend just a normal 5200 if you are casual, and use the rest of hte money on something else ;) But as agreed with everyone else here, if you want the best you can get, buy a 7800.

well... It's gonna have a hefty load of Photoshop/Illustrator... and LOTS of Unreal Tournament... etc... I wanted a -nice- card... so I planned on using all of the money just for the card...

Thanks for all the help guys... I'll most likely be getting a eVGA 7800GT then...

PS and UT run fine on my 5200, I don't see why it or a slightly better model wouldn't do. You shouldn't blow $400 on a video card, that's just rediculous, you don't need that kind of power for what you want, you shouldn't need that kind of power for anything. But, go with what you will.

The 7800GT would be a great choice. I personally do not think the added performance of the 7800GTX justifies such a higher price.

Talk about a complete waste of money.

The FX5200 is garbage and at the price it is at there are much better options. The 6200 TC is ~$50 last time I checked. It offers the best performance at that price point. If he was really on a budget and wasn't a serious gamer then that would be what I would recommend. A FX5200 shouldn't even be considered unless you are getting it for free.

and LOTS of Unreal Tournament

For UT a 7800GT is OVERKILL. Do you play any newer games?

You could just add another PCI card.

For Unreal Tournament and PS + Illustrator you wouldn't need a 7800GT. However if you think you will be getting into more newer end games I would still go ahead and get the 7800GT, considering you have budgeted that much for it. The EVGA model DOES have 2 DVI ports so you could run two LCD monitors. However unless they are DVI you will need an extra DVI converter attachment because the monitor itself only comes with one. Those are cheap though so no worries there. I still would have to recommend the 7800GT seeing as it will easily provide you with power for years to come. And who knows, you might start getting into more power hungry games such as Battlefield. And with Valve beginning to implement High Dynamic Range into their games, it would be wise to get something that will be able to handle those advancements easily.

I still vote the 7800GT unless you are seriously only going to play Unreal Tournament. In that case you could drop to a 6800Gt or even 6600Gt I would think.

Yeah, get the 7800GT. If you're going to play newer games it would be foolish to get a lower model with that kind of money budgeted.

Agreed, if you ever intend to play those games get the 7800GT.
