I assume you realise that the studio was one of The Beatles' main instruments... |

It depends on how it is used. I study Music Technology and it is a fantastic tool if used right. If someone has sang an entire song, while recording, almost pefectly and had one bum note, you can use auto-tune to shift the flat nopte up. Another instance where I find it okay to use if it becomes a characteristic of a song. For instance, Rihannas Disturbia, that has a great use of auto-tune on the chorus to add effect. Same with Kanye West's album, he uses it for creative reasons. Now you take the Spice Girls for instance, 5 people who could not sing, using without auto-tune to fool people they could, where it is routed into their microphones in live concerts so they still sound studio live, now I think this is bad. |

Yes, but not auto-tune. Also, they sounded rather spot on during their concert touring years so I doubt it would make much of a difference between live performances and studio performances. |

and...? Do you listen to your favorite artists because they can sing well? Or do you listen to them because they produce an overall good quality of music that you like? I listen to them because of the latter and I could care less if they use an auto-tune. |

You'd be surprised how many people actually use auto-tune, like said, even great singers use it for those one or two bum notes made while recording. I think it is pointless slating it, it is a fantastic studio plug-in when used correctly and not to hide pretty people who cannot sing at all. |

I was already aware of this for a very long time. I loved the autotune on "Believe' by Cher which is apparently the first song to use it. It's a cool tool, but I agree it shouldn't be used excessively. |

Actually I would rather hear a crappy quality, imperfect song than a song that is perfected with auto-tune and what not. Example being Neutral Milk Hotel. I would much rather listen to his voice than somebody's studio overproduced voice. |

Firstly, it's Couldn't care less. I know the bands i listen to didn't use Auto-tune, they might not have been the best vocalists in the world but that didn't matter, because the music and songwriting blew away anything these shit bands of today can do. |

Auto-tune is fine once in a blue moon. But once T-Pain made it his gimmick, everything went to hell. Other rappers and R&B artists saw how much revenue he was grossing because of it and hopped on the band wagon. It got to the point where it is butchered and rarely sounds good. |
