I seem to have forgotten how to do this, but is there a way to set a minimum to how many characters a member must have in their posts? Also, what would you guys recommend this amount be?

Hey

This isn't a default feature, however a code has been written to make this possible.

The number of characters is entirely upto you, if you have a forum where you'd like to encourage deeper more thoughtful posts then perhaps you'd increase the characters required to post to a paragraph's worth.

Bare in mind though some users may not like having to type out extra things just to post and this could drive them away from your board.

If I had to make a suggestion, I would suggest using Dan T's "how's my post" code if you're looking for longer posts. The little bar makes people subconsciously try to fill it up as much as they can and I have seen that it can force people to make longer posts.

He is still updating it to work in the fast reply and stuff, but it does work in new topics and quotes perfecto. It also does what you want - if they have less than 10 (I think) words in their post, then it will give them an alert saying so. It doesn't completely restrict it though, just asks them if they're sure they'd like to post.

My hands are tied in that it is against the rules to post links. I do not believe he has it posted on this board either.

Of course, he is the admin of the place I am staff at so he surely would have placed it there... (hint hint) :r

This code doesn't seem to work on my board. It doesn't do anything at all when using fast reply, and when using the full post window, it displays the alert but still lets you go on with your post.

I suppose you'll have to request a code from one of these boards.
