Would it not be easier to sell your car and buy a new one? Here even dealerships sell used cars. |

I think it does. Sitting on the right side of the car on the left side of the road gives you a greater range of vision. Regardless, I'm not sure about family, but last I checked you need a darn good reason to move to the states. Like taking a job. I don't think you can simply say 'Oooh I want to go live in the US '.

Why not? Millions of illegal immigrants can't be wrong. ![]() I hear that the application process is very long, and the test is quite daunting. Be sure to brush up on your American history, and your fundamentals of American government, so that you're prepared. |

Not sure about that.. It would put you ahead of 98% of all American citizens and could be perceived as a threat to national security. |

PhranK, you just brightened up my day XD . Tony, I live in London and I don't own a car - yet. I would obviously be going there to work and live, not just to sit there in a random house doing nothing but watching an unlicensed HBO while eating a big mac. I would most likely live around NY so I'm close to my relatives .

Just noticed this. Next time you're in your car, look over your left shoulder. Then look over your right. Which side can you see better? Merging onto a motorway would be a lot easier without a vertical bar in your view, and having to move your head around; thus diverting attention from the vehicles in front, which still need to be watched.

While that might be true, you also have to merge off of motorways, so any benefit to one would be a detriment to the other. Also, speaking from experience as a professional driver, when in town you want to eliminate or at least minimize left turns so you don't have to waste time and fuel waiting at street lights, therefore it's better to have increased vision on your right side to help avoid cyclists and pedestrians when making right turns. I'm not really sure what the rationale used for determining the position of the driver is, but I'm guessing it's typically located on the side nearest to oncoming traffic because it's easier to tell how close you are to or how far over the center line you are, since a collision with oncoming traffic would normally be much worse than any alternative. At any rate, those little bubble mirrors you put on the corner of your regular mirrors are always a good idea. ![]()
![]() I was only half joking though.. |

Or just buy yourself a mclaren f1 - with the seat in the middle, the best of both worlds. |

?? Sitting on the right while driving on the left = sitting near the middle of the road. Sitting on the left wouldn't give you the best vision of the road ahead. But, I dunno what dysfunction your car has, but my car came with a side view mirror Makes merging onto the motorway easy peasy. Plus if I were on the left side of the car, using that side view mirror might be a little trickier, and really, who wants to turn their neck around that far when pulling out onto a motorway?

If you look up online the test for citizenship, the questions they have on there are ridiculous and I couldn't even answer a good chunk and I paid attention in class. That ^^^ is more accurate than you would believe. And it's crazy that those born here know less than what people have to know in order to come into the country as a citizen. And this convo about the car and driving is funny *eats popcorn* |

Ever heard of a blind spot? How exactly would it be far? When looking right, I turn my head more than I do when looking left. ^o) .. field of vision is great until something blocks it. Most cars have a central divider thing that doors close against. For me, personally, it's easier to check left than it is right. Also, I would never consider not looking far (how ever far it might be) to my right before joining a heavy flow of fast traffic. I damn sure don't want to meet a lorry mid-merge. I have the addition of circular mini-mirrors attached to my door mirrors. Same thing no? |

Not to err to off-topic but I was in Buffalo, NY the other day (its been awhile since I've left my small town) and I found out they've got these cool machines where you pay for something at the cash register and then the cashier doesn't have to count your change, the machine spits it out at you. I was thoroughly impressed by this technology.

Yes, those are probably the same mirrors I was talking about. Little convex thingies to give a wide view.. And yeah, one of the first things you should learn about driving is to check your mirrors often (at least once every 10 seconds, preferably every 5) but never to rely on them, so you should pretty much always turn your head when merging or backing up, even at 3am when you don't see any traffic.
Necessity is the mother of invention, they say. Deleted User points out that 98% of Americans are too stupid to make change properly, so those machines help prevent all the wasted time and angry customers that letting cashiers count for themselves would cause. |

Why a greater range of vision? Sitting on the right side traveling on the left side is the same as sitting on the left side traveling on the right side. I think? ^o) Oh, and go get a passport and just go live with your relatives. I don't know if there is a limit on how long you can stay in the US with a passport, so why get citizenship? Unless you want of course. :$ North America is the land of the mentally challenged, so beware. |
