Can you use deodorant?

Just thinking about self defence, as I am not a strong man, and on more than one occasion I have had to deal with being physically held or assaulted. I know that mace spray is illegal in the UK, so you can't buy it. You can buy this gel spray.

However, I'm not too concerned about legalities, I'm of the opinion that unfortunately the British law protects the criminals' rights more than it protects the victims.

Anyway, can deodorant, like Lynx Bullet, be used as mace and sprayed in the attackers eyes, without causing permanent damage?

I don't think it can cause permanent damage, but maybe enough of it in the eyes will. I wouldn't advise doing that tho.

Surely anyone would only really know if they've tried it before? :P

It sucks that you feel you need to carry something like that around, though. If it were me I'd be less concerned about how it'd affect their eyesight to be honest. If they want to attack me they can deal with the consequences :P
A friend of mine always recommends using keys as a weapon.

I don't know what Lynx Bullet is composed of, but I'm sure it could hurt a bit (at least enough to make your get away). If it's anything like perfume or cologne, it'll probably sting the eyes for a bit and take a while before the attacker can say it's not irritating him.
You could always try onion juice in a spray bottle. :r Although, I don't suppose you'd want to be carrying that vile liquid around. :P

Hold on dude...stay still a second...oh crap my lighter went out :( Hold on...right I'm just going to spray this over this tiny flame and pray that only one of us gets burnt okay? :shifty: '

Are there any legal issues with defending yourself if provoked or attacked? You would think that even a mace type spray, even used in defending yourself couldn't land you in trouble.

That law is strange at best. O_O

To be honest if you're in a situation in which you can't run and have to use violence, you'll want something with a little more "umph" than lynx. I would carry a rock, it'd knock them out but not kill them.
