Well long story cut short, Im starting a new website. I have the domain and hosting sorted, but I am not sure which forum software to use.

I really wanted to use vBulletin, but I cant afford it, nor can I afford IPB.
So yeah, which forum software would you recomend?
And for what reasons?

SMF, or phpBB.

Of those two options, I would personally go with phpBB. :/

PhpBB, i've never administrated an SMF board but I prefer the look and feel of phpBB, at least on the outside. It also has a much larger selection of templates and mods.

phpBB, although if you've never used it before the ACP can be confusing in a couple of areas.

phpBB for customisation, SMF if you like more modifications and features.

MyTopix ^_^ But out of the two you chose, both are wonderful pieces of software, try them both and see hwat you feel more comfortable with. phpBB is more standard, you'll work it like you would work most forums, but SMF is a bit different and take a little time to get used to.

I like the look of phpBB more than SMF, but both are good. It just really depends on what you are going to do with your board. If you are going to be doing mods and such, go with the SMF. If you want a more standard feel that is easy to use, go with phpBB.

IF and Mytopix is also good... ;)

There lies a critical security hole within MyTopix though, that I know you are aware of it. It is for that reason that I would suggest against using MyTopix.

And you are here recommending one of the most insecure forum systems, and say you wouldn't use MyTopix because of a hole? That's hilarious...

If your talking about IF, it is actually pretty secure as long as you take proper precautions...

And I'm sure the admin would rather be using something more secure, but as this is the IF Skin Zone...
