is there a way to upload my older version of of my invision BB to my new free version?

my new BB is http://z10.invisionfree.com/hotips/index.php?

I copied all the data from my old site of ho-tips.org, so I figure I would just run the free BB, cause I am unemployed and can not afford the $150 to upgrade the ho-tips.org site.

What do you mean by your old version?

This is Invisionfree, not IPB (or any version of Invision not owned by Zathyus Networks). It's a different system even though IF is based on IPB 1.3.

He/she wants to transfer the data from the old site to here.

Since it's IPB, I think you can. But since your IPB complains that the database data is broken, maybe not (unless you have a working copy). Or at least, you used to be able to. You would want to send a support ticket for more information.

I had the free BB from here, then paid for the hosted site that simply moved my free BB over.
the hosted site worked fine till I think the data base was upgrade.
and the user panel disappeared. no problem

I guess the recently upgraded it again, so the old version of the BB stopped working, ie.. the errors that you now see

What is this BB that you're talking about here? Is it Invisionfree, or just Invision? Invisionfree boards are hosted by the IF network.

Did you convert your board from IF to IPB 1.3 in the past?

Errors with a self hosted board from Invision Power Services would be caused by whomever has access to your hosting account and it's database. Up-grades to IP.Board are at your discretion. If you still have an active support licence, you can send a support ticket from your client area for one of their staff to assist you.

I'm not completely sure of the ability to convert in to InvisionFree at this time. However, if the version of IP.Board is greater then 1.3 you will not be able to.

As Tony said, please be descriptive. We still do not know exactly what you are referring to by Invision BB, although you are probably referring to an old version of Invision Power Board.

What do you see in the old board's copyright description? That should tell you what it is. Even if it may include the word "Invision" in it, if it doesn't say the following,
Quote:

Hosted for free by InvisionFree

then it's not Invisionfree, meaning not the board software hosted by the service here.

when I go to the bb, ho-tips.org I see:

Quote:

mySQL query error: SELECT f.*, c.id as cat_id, c.position as cat_position, c.state as cat_state, c.name as cat_name, c.description as cat_desc,
c.image, c.url, m.member_name as mod_name, m.member_id as mod_id, m.is_group, m.group_id, m.group_name, m.mid
FROM hotips_forums f, hotips_categories c
LEFT JOIN hotips_moderators m ON (f.id=m.forum_id)
WHERE c.id=f.category
ORDER BY c.position, f.position

mySQL error: Unknown column 'f.id' in 'on clause'
mySQL error code:
Date: Wednesday 16th 2009f December 2009 07:36:02 PM

looking at my cpanel i have:

Quote:

# MySQL client version: 4.1.22
# PHP extension: mysql

here is some info from the hosting site support:

Quote:

Also, I've learned this from the Invision Power Board staff:

"We have officially retired all versions prior to 2.0.0 Final.
There are simply too many security vulnerabilities in the older
software. We really do not recommend that individuals use such old versions in a live environment. "

So it sounds like there are further problems with their code and you definitely won't be able to get anyone from there to help you with it unless you buy their new software.

So if I come back to using IF can the database info from the hosted site be imported into IF

I don't know if it's possible to convert IPB 1.3 to IF. You should sent a support ticket for it. I also recommend that you ask about the difference between IF and IPB in your ticket, since staff can clarify that for you better than I can. It doesn't seem that this is clarified here IMHO.

Conversion is, however, different from transfer of content from one board to another, which is not available for Invisionfree boards. So you cannot transfer content from your board to an IF board you already created.
