I am shocked that no one else has created a group yet for those of us who are fans of FOX's fall hit, Glee. The show has just gone on winter hiatus, so I thought it would be an excellent idea (as I listen to the Volume 2 Soundtrack) to create a topic for all of the Gleeks out there to chat about the show. A little extra to share: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFClq0L9kd0 (Mark Salling aka 'Puck' singing in a Glee-themed home video) Everyone is welcome to join up and discuss this (in my opinion) amazing show.

I'm a Gleek! ![]() My favorite song they've done so far is Journey's "Don't Stop Believing." I love the a cappella introduction and Rachel's (Lea Michelle) voice is just amazing in it. |

I love Glee! My favorite songs so far are Don't Rain On My Parade & You Can't Always Get What You (Sectionals), True Colors, Defying Gravity (Kurt ftw!) and Halo/Walking on Sunshine Mash-Up. I wish they sang more Kelly Clarkson songs. Rachel sounds the best at Kelly Clarkson songs! Can't wait for next year for more Glee! |

I enjoy Glee quite a bit! I have to get caught up with the last few episodes, but it's one of my favorite shows on TV right now. I enjoy what their arrangers do with songs to recreate them in a way that sounds very fresh and at times fits the music better than what the original performer did. (See: "Dancing with Myself")I do have one issue with it, though. They are very...liberal...in their use of autotune. I'm not a fan of that at all. Perhaps if they did it tactfully, but sometimes it gets ridiculous. (Listen to Kurt's part in "Defying Gravity.") I hope it's not simply because some of the cast cannot pull off the music. It's not present in Rachel's parts at all from what I hear...though she is particularly talented. What do you guys think of it?

It's some sort of software they use to make a singer's voice sound in-tune. Something can be sung completely off-key, but when they pass it through autotune it will have perfect pitch. I believe it's used fairly commonly in almost all kinds of recorded music nowadays to make subtle adjustments, but when it's overused it can produce a "robot"-like tone quality. (Sometimes people do that intentionally, like T-Pain.) For some examples... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dBW4pViRTU -- Start listening at 1:06, it's very apparent when Kurt sings "Till I try I'll never know" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUZwdbeS2mM -- Finn's part is autotuned all over the place. They use it heavily on him in almost every song. And here's a more extreme example, in which a group has actually used autotune on spoken clips from the news to create a song (Be warned that there is a small bit of profanity and potentially suggestive content in this link, but it's completely within Youtube's terms of service) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eooXNd0heMBasically, whenever you hear a very in-tune and clean note that sounds almost-robotic, that's usually autotune. No one's actual voice does that. I can appreciate when autotune is used intentionally to create a certain effect, but when it's used to tune vocals that should sound more raw within the given context, I am not much of a fan. I was kind of forced into watching the Pilot when I downloaded Hulu Desktop and I've been a fan ever since. I still haven't gotten around to watching the last episode before the break, but I should be able to sometime during this break. |

He's not very good. And if he keeps forcing that sound on the left, he's going to develop serious issues (like vocal nodes). Can't even find redemption on the right, because he has pitch issues. Fun to see that people are covering the covers though.
