[Solved] GoDaddy Domain Help; DNS Violation Errors?

Domain name: gleerpg.com
Registrar: GoDaddy.com
Forum URL: http://z10.invisionfree.com/gleerpg

I have tried following the guide, but each time I do, I get an error.

If I enter gleerpg.com. into the "Alias" and z10.invisionfree.com into the "Points to", then I get this error:

Quote:

ERROR - DNS Rules Violation, A record of a different type exists for this hostname, CNAME cannot be created for @.

If I enter www.gleerpg.com. into the "Alias" and z10.invisionfree.com into the "Points to," then I get this error:

Quote:

ERROR - DNS Rules Violation, Only one CNAME can exist for the hostname www.

Would this be because I did the "domain forwarding" already? I thought that was the only option we had but then I saw the thing in my admin panel about setting up the domain through there so that the urls to threads show the domain name.

But if I try to enter the domain name into the admin panel "Domain Manager," I get this:

Quote:

The domain you have entered does not appear to point to this server at this time. The domain should point to z10.invisionfree.com with a CNAME record.

Help please?

Thanks in advance. :)

Please take a screen capture and post it here of your domain control panel so we can see your actual settings.

Thanks.

Okay, I wasn't sure exactly which screen you wanted to see, so I took a few screenshots:

We have not changed anything at all other than to simply forward the domain address to our forum.

Thanks. :)

Okay, after 3 days of being unable to figure this out and even the tech support at godaddy telling me that they don't know what is wrong (and that they think the invisionfree info is incorrect), I put z10.invisionfree.com. as the Alias and gleerpg.com in the Points To and I didn't get errors when doing that one.

Now that is completely backwards from what it says in the guide, since it says the domain name goes in the Alias and the invision server goes in the Points to, so I have no idea whether or not it will work and I guess I just have to wait and find out. But I figured I would post here and document this anyway.

*crosses fingers*

Sorry, it works if you SWAP the values? That can't be right. :P

These DNS violation errors have cropped up recently, but the documentation hasn't changed at all; I can't see why errors are occurring now, unless GoDaddy have changed something.

That's what GoDaddy told me to do, though. XD

I did that and I changed the IP that I had been given through my support ticket (it seems I was given the IP for Zetaboards instead of Invisionfree). Once I did those, my domain began working fine. So this can be closed.

Thanks for the help! :)
