Hey, I know I dont come here much but other than go to one of those amazingly huge PC support forums I thought I'd ask here first. Basically I've been getting into quite alot of strategy games such as AOE, Total War, Civ etc etc. Well I dont actually have civ but would if i could. My problem is they dont seem to work now currently I'm on a laptop so I thought that might have been the problem so I tried my dads desktop and still it didnt work. I'm guessing its the video card and/or the RAM. So I'm looking into getting a new PC that I could use mainly for gaming. Now I dont want one of those £1000+ specialised gaming pcs because I dont have that much money. However on a local PC retailers website I've found they sell base units without any peripharals/software etc. They say that it would be ideal for stuff like gaming even though technically its not a gaming pc, im guessing the lack of a monitors/software etc is the only thing keeping the price tag under £500. So I've set my eye on it. Now I have a mouse and I'm a student so windows is under £100 but I would still need a monitor and a keyboard. So I was thinking where to get one when I realised I was using one. My laptop. Is it possible to somehow rig my laptop to function solely as keyboard/monitor whilst I hook up this new base unit for an actual computer? If so how? What equipment would be needed? If its imposible you guys got any links to some cheap monitors? A CRT monitor would be fine, as cheap as possible. Thanks, Simon PS. I'm british so could links to websites selling stuff be british and be priced in £££. |

I thought i might as well see if my laptop could function soley as one, save myself money. But yeah I checked Froogle and Kelkoo. But im not really good with computer specs so its difficult for me to tell whats good value and whats not. Oh nother question, I do have a monitor in my attack that we had on our old windows 95 pc, will it work with a new pc?[/desperate strugle to cut costs] |

Yes, aslong as it's got a VGA connector (Your new PC must have a VGA connector aswell, otherwise you'd need to get a DVI-->VGA connector.) |

ok simon 512 mb ram is going to be ok for alot of RTF games. And for the price of computers and your budget, going to the 1gb or ram will not be worth it.for the processor any p4 amd 64 will be fine. Your not a serious gamer so you dont need to be getting an AMD FX dual core or any other **** hardcore hardware guru's will tell you to get. For the price, just look for anything over 1.5 ghz. Thats basically all you will need to look for in order to get a computer that can play those games for you. Pretty much any generic graphics card will get the job done. Hell I've got a generic card for 100 dollars and it plays some of the most advanced games (graphic wise) with no problem, at all. You can pretty much just visit your local fry's electronics (or equivalent) and get a computer with those specs for about 700 dollars US. OR if you really want to get cheap. I don't know about england, but here in america the day after thanksgiving you can get some pretty decent computers for 200 bucks. Just some ideas for ya. |
