Looks like the studio has changed it's mind, and is going to go down the reboot route. Thoughts?

Thank God! Past 3 movies were already bad enough.

Personally, I hated the cast of the first 3. This will hopefully be a breath of fresh air

Meh. As it says on the site, I hope it's not just some other "Origins" movie. I also hope they don't just rehash the same villains. On the other side of things though, if the 4th movie was to be anything like the last one, it wouldn't have even been worth making.

So I'm not sure what to think about this.

I would really hate an origins movie as I feel they're pointless to me haha. I think they should handle it like they did with the last Hulk movie, give some of the origins in flashbacks and assume everyone knows the rest.

I thought 3 was horrid. 1 and 2 were pretty good.

Considering the huge box office success of the first three, I think this is incredibly risky. Whether people like the end result, they tend to turn out en-masse to see Spiderman and the stars (Toby et al). Unless they put together an amazing advertising campaign, expect this fourth film to make merely average box office revenue.

On one hand, I think people will be disappointed to see new actors.

On the other hand, the third movie was bad enough that the studio probably made a good call canceling the fourth movie.

A reboot, however, I'm not too sure about. Sometimes, Hollywood needs to stop milking the cash cow.

I enjoyed the first three movies! The first movie started out with Peter in high school already. I can't imagine why going back to high school would make for a more exciting story.

Aren't most of the comic books about the adult Peter and his journalism photography?

A reboot is a terrible idea, the last movie JUST came out....people expect the regular cast. Let the regulars fix the mess that was Spiderman 3.

Regardless, Spiderman 3 screwed up so much, I'm not surprised. Harry is dead, Peter and Mary on the outs, Ben's killer and that un-needed plot twist. x____x Maybe it is time for a reboot.

I agree with the majority so far in that I hated the first three (okay, the second one was tolerable) so I'm happy with this. I think I would like to see them cast some, at least relatively, unknowns for the roles. The fact that Tobey Maguire was Spidey and then later Topher Grace was Brock/Venom really bothered me. I would also love to see them get a little more deep/dark with it, though I think casting a better lead would help that a lot.

Batman Begins was a reboot that occurred 16 years after Burton's Batman in 1989 and 8 year's after Batman and Robin.
Spider-Man 1 will have it's 10th anniversary next May and the last movie was just over 2 years ago.
It's far too soon to reboot this and call it Spider-Man.

Keep the film's existing canon and recast? Fine. Reboot? Too soon.

Base if off Ultimate Spider-Man and call it Ultimate Spider-Man.

Also: $100 says Gwen Stacey has the love interest role and if Mary Jane Watson is in it, she is just a friend.

If they are smart, they will beg JK Simmons to return. That man alone made Spider-Man 3 bearable for multiple viewings. Even if this tanks and Zac Efron is Peter Parker with Megan Fox as Gwen Stacey, fans would still turn out for JK Simmons' J. Jonah Jameson.

I blame the Dark Knight, Twilight and studio ineptitude for this.
