In Your Lifetime

That one guy
If there was one thing you could see in your lifetime, what would it be? (not necessarily accomplished by you)

Examples: World peace, find sentient life, create sentient machines, cure cancer, eliminate poverty, etc.

Also, why do you choose your selection over these others (and whatever various people come up with)?

They would probably by my choices.
The thought of finding sentient life on other planets, or sentient life finding us really does excite me, although it is something I don't think will happen during my life time.

I would love to see extraterrestrial life making first contact with us (or us making first contact with extraterrestrial life). Mainly because I am fascinated with evolution, and would love to know how life evolved on other planets.

Probably equal human rights.
Agreed.

A united world that isnt divided by borders and where every skin color and cultural differences are accepted and treasured.

There's way too many things I like to see happen in my lifetime.

What is possible to happen and what I'd like to see happen are two different things unfortunately. World peace, find the cure to many different illnesses, end world hunger, stop animal cruelty... list goes on really.

I'd love to see the cure for cancer or HIV or both mostly because those two things seem to be within our reach someday.

Much as I'd love to see world peace or equal rights or an end to animal cruelty, those things will probably always exist, unfortunately. Anyone ever read "The Lottery"? The author makes a case that there cannot be goodness without cruelty. I think there is some truth to that.

I'd like to see the expansion of artificial--i.e. mechanical--limbs and organs become more pronounced. Also, the start of medical nanotechnology, i.e. controlled micro-machines that help regular and aid the body. Nanotechnology could, in my opinion, extend the average lifespan and working years at least twenty years, and I think that's a conservative estimate. I want to be part of the cyborg generation :arr:

For my brothers to shut up over their game of Monopoly.
It'd be neat to see equal human rights, as Dakota pointed out, on a more serious note.
