How crazy is this debacle going to get? ![]() NBC decided in the early 2000s that Conan O'Brien would take the helm of the Tonight Show from Jay Leno in 2009. Little did they realize Jay Leno would remain the #1 late night host leading out of 2009. Therefore, in order to prevent him from going to another network and continuing his dominance, they offered him the 10PM slot. However, local carriers received a blow to their ratings with The Jay Leno Show as a lead-in. To top it off, The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien had moved to last place among its competitors. So bowing to pressure, NBC cancels Jay Leno, decides to move him to 11:35 and push back the Tonight Show, Fallon, and Carson Daly. But: Conan O'Brien says no. Now, the ball is back in NBC's court as they attempt to decide what to do. Conan O'Brien is poised to move to FOX, which would be horrible for NBC, yet they have to find room for Jay. Have you been following any of this drama? What do you think? |

Out of this whole situation, the only one I really care about is Conan. I loved Late Night and when I found out he was taking over the Tonight Show I was really excited. But after he did, I realized that I don't watch the Tonight Show. It doesn't matter whose hosting, I'm just usually doing something around 10:30 at night. His old timeslot was better for me, because that's when I would be ready to watch. I would have absolutely no problem with Conan moving back to 11:00, in fact, I'd probably watch him more. In Conan's message the other day, he said that he hasn't been in talks with FOX at all yet, but I think it would be a dumb choice. Going up against Leno and Letterman at the same time would be a bad career move. I could care less what network he's on, but Conan better stay on the air. |

Team Conan. Grew up on this guy. One of my favourites in the business. Leno is funny, but I'd take Conan anyday |

I've only been following this a little bit. But apparently Leno has dropped hints that he'd like to host the Tonight Show again. I think the studios are overlooking the fact that it takes time for new shows to take off and certainly a pro like Leno must realize this also. I think less of him for just wanting his old job back. I think Leno should just retire and let Conan have his chance. I don't watch the Tonight show so I really who hosts the show, but I find Leno's attitude a bit off putting. |

Leno is a wise businessman, and always has been. You have to remember this is his and many other peoples' livelihoods that he's fighting for. I have always enjoyed watching him (over Letterman or Conan) so I wouldn't mind seeing him in the Tonight Show seat again. However, I don't think that's feasible. I think Leno or Conan moving to a new network is probably the best solution. |

I think Conan should come out on top. Jay Leno has no talent. He sucks. Conan is way funnier and more original. LOVE THAT GUY. |

I personally find Leno funnier; I haven't actually watched the Tonight Show since Conan took over. While I think what he's doing is a bit of a dick move and now see him as a greedy *******, I always enjoyed Leon more than Conan or Letterman. |

The latest I have heard is NBC will pay Conan a $30 million dollar settlement to restore Jay Leno to The Tonight Show. I have yet to hear whether the agreement frees Conan to move to another network or whether he will be frozen out for the remainder of his contract's 3 1/2 years. |

Wonder if Conan will take it? I read an interview he gave the other day where he said it's always been his dream to host the Tonight Show and he hoped the network was going to give him more time to gain a following. If he were to take the settlement, what happens someday when Leno either retires or dies? Who would host the show in those circumstances? Leno isn't a young guy anymore. |

God, I just hope Conan comes out of it with another show. I missed him during the writers strike, I missed him when he moved to Tonight, and now I can't miss him again, I need my Coco in my life. |

Leno's also not old. Nor do I think he would host until his death (which is probably a good 25-30 years away, considering he's only 59). I believe what I shared is the deal he *has* taken, just not signed officially yet. It's pretty much his only option, really. |

Retirement age is 65-67. So assuming he retires at age 67, that's 8 years away. |

Very few people retire at that age, and fewer in the entertainment industry (men in particular). On a side note, did you know that our generation's retirement age is pegged somewhere around 85? (random information) |

Well he should retire soon, the fact that his new show isn't doing well indicates he's losing his touch. He should let Conan have his chance. After all, part of the reason the Tonight Show isn't doing well is because Leno's lead in show isn't drawing viewers. |

His new show has consistent numbers with his old one and still beat Conan. It wasn't doing well on the scale of 10PM dramas, which traditionally has a larger audience to tap. Industry experts believe that he'll go right back to the top if he returns to The Tonight Show. To argue your 'lead-in' case, Leno also had poor lead-in. I think that argument has been specious. I don't think anyone is at fault here except for NBC for not giving either guy longer to get their shows rolling. |
