What is the problem with being selfish, Jam? x_x Selfishness is a natural part of human beings. It is just that some hide it behind masks of "altruism" while others show it more openly.

I donated some money. Really not much at all, but it's still better than arguing over whose country has donated what, and then correcting people's spelling mistakes as a last minute jab because you're angry at someone's post. Anyone bored of being defined by the country they live in yet? I mean... the point of donating to help complete strangers is at the end of it, everyone is a human being on the same planet. Honestly, I really hate the concept of money sometimes. |

$100 million is not that much of the grand scheme of things. And frankly, I find it appalling to suggest that providing relief in this situation is not warranted or appropriate. We're looking at the poorest country in the western hemisphere here...they've endured a natural disaster that has made the final blow to their infrastructure, and what was already a humanitarian problem has risen to a level that is nearly incomprehensible. Americans may be "struggling to make end's meet," but if you truly understood the scope of Haiti's distress, you'd realize the two situations are hardly comparable. It is a fundamental human responsibility of the US and other first-world nations to provide aid when something like this happens. It is not really even a debatable subject. A world in which we pinch pennies even in dealing with an obliterated third-world country who desperately requires help is not a world I would like to live in. This is a matter of very basic humanity. On another note, Haiti will likely not be an independent nation much longer. The situation will likely require either UN control, or I could see them becoming a Puerto-Rico-esque territory of the US or another nation. |

Interestingly, they nearly were at one point (like Puerto-Rico), so I definitely think events will lead down that road. |

I've done my part and donated £10 towards to the aid effort there. Such a catastrophe needs us all to help chip in and do everything we can. |

Evanescence have released a single 'Together Again', of which proceeds will go towards aiding Haiti. The info is on their website if anyone is interested.
