I was just curious how many have taken the SAT or ACT testing in high school? Did you try to get a good score for colleges and how did you do on the test?

It interests me (and makes me sad, honestly) how much these two test are emphasized in schools. I see it more and more locally. It corresponds with the emphasis on testing, though.

Annnnnnyway, I took the ACT, but never the SAT. I took the test three times, with the last being my highest score.

What did I want out of the test? An excellent score, because I don't do anything to be merely average. But it was essential for scholarship -- the last was finally the score that sent me into the highest bracket for scholarships/awards.

I'm now getting ready to take the GRE, so starting the process all over again.

I took each 2 times I think. Not much fun. I did alright, though.

I've taken the ACT once with a decent score. I didn't study or anything before taking it because I merely wanted the average score for those accepted into the college and I managed it. I actually would have scored higher if my math hadn't brought me down a peg. :r

I've graduated from high school in 2006 with a bad score (1200ish), and I'm taking it again Saturday to get a higher score as I'm applying to colleges now.

I took the ACT twice and SAT once. I hate the SAT and didn't do as well on it and since the college I wanted to apply to only needed the ACT, I just used my score for that.

My highest composite score on the ACT was 34.

I took the ACT once and the SAT three times. I absolutely despise the SAT, but the ACT was okay. I got a 32.

I've never taken the college SAT, but I did take the PSAT test in my sophomore year and scored fairly well, 95 percentage scored overall. I've taken the ACT three times now, and did my best the second time around. On my first test, I scored a 26 composite. On my second try all of my separate scores were from 30-32 averaging to a 31 even for the composite. Third time was a 30.

The main reasons that I took it were college admission, scholarship money, and just plain curiosity about how I would do. I managed to score 3 points higher than anyone else in my graduating class and outscored my older bro by 1.

To me, the worst part was having to read through the boring crap in the reading section. Even just scanning for answers is agonizing when you have no interest in the lifestyles of 2 different types of gorillas...

Taking the SAT sometime in May... I have no definite plans for the ACT yet but I mean to take it when I can.

If you're planning on going to college, you should check with the ones that you plan to apply to to see which tests that they require. I know that most colleges in my area of the US accept either the ACT or the SAT, but there are some colleges that require you to take the SAT or the ACT with some certain SAT subject tests.

I took both over a year ago. I got a 32 on the ACT and I think an ~1800 total on the SAT. I chose not to retake them.

The American SAT is a three-part test involving an Arithmetic, English, and Writing portion. The first two are mainly multiple-choice, while the Writing portion consists of you writing two essays (I think, I haven't taken it in YEARS).
