The first two are mainly multiple-choice, while the Writing portion consists of you writing two essays (I think, I haven't taken it in YEARS).
Math and reading are all multiple-choice. Writing consists of one 25-minute essay and multiple-choice sections.

Math actually has some grid in responses, but most of it is multiple choice.

SAT is a difficult test, I didn't do so well the first time. I usually don't do well under timed tests, especially when there isn't that much time in SAT. I did immensely better taking the ACT, receiving a composite score of 33.

I did fairly well on both tests, but when I thought I did bad on my ACT and good on my SAT it turned out to be the other way around. I ended up with a (I think) a lower score, percentage-wise, in the SAT than the ACT.
