Who's watching? What do you think of the nominations? Who do you think will win? What performances are you looking forward to.

I'm watching. I'm excited about the nominations. I'm not sure who'll win that's why I'm watching. All of them.

TALK. :)

I'm more interested in watching the NFL Pro Bowl tonight. The Grammy's tend to deal with music that I really don't care about, so I usually end up not watching.

All I heard was MGMT got beat by black eyed peas. Good to see the grammy's are still a constant disappointment.

Any award ceremonies where the Black Eyed Peas win something is a sham anyway.

I mean I don't even mind that song really, but it just proves just how much of a popularity contest it all is. It's the biggest problem with music.

I watched it. Lady GaGa's and Elton John's duo was amazing! So was Bon Jovi's and Green Day.

Didn't watch. The only highlight I saw was when Colbert pulled out that iPad. I did hear Taylor Swift won Album of the Year which blows my mind. CORRECTION: I just looked at who she was nominated against that blows my mind.

It's the biggest problem with mainstream music.
Fix that for you.

Well, the awards sort of recognize artists for outstanding achievement in music so it is sort of a popularity contest. I wouldn't say it's a problem though... if a song is good a song is good. It doesn't need an award for everyone to recognize it. Remember the awards aren't an indication of how good your music is, but just recognizing the achievements each artist has made.

I also loved the duo between Elton and Gaga. I was so excited when I heard "I hope you don't mind that I put down in words"; basically screaming because Our Song is my favourite from Elton and Speechless is my favorite from Gaga. ^_^

1. outstanding achievement in music
2. popularity
The problem is that nowadays achieving the first generally eliminates all hope of attaining the second, while striving for the second usually prohibits the first. :P

Well, if a song is popular a lot of people like it and buy it; obviously sounds kind of frivolous but it makes sense to me. I think that's an outstanding achievement myself but who am I to say? :P

I get what you're saying though (or I think I do), I don't usually associate quality with popularity.

That's an outstanding achievement, yes, but only in selling your product; not necessarily in music (a high level of composing, playing or creativity). :P

That's true, the composing in popular music is really basic (Imma Be :P ) and cliche with the exception of a few good composers. That doesn't go without saying I love mainstream anyway.

I have to echo the Gaga/Elton comments. The duet was spectacular, really. Too bad she was shut out from the live awards.
