I don't know if I'm a "great" coder, but I most certainly am a coder, so I'll give my thoughts. I started with Quick Basic when I was eight years old and progressed to PHP, Javascript and the likes the older I got. My movement to web-based coding was purely down to the amount of requests I'd get off people. Starting is pretty easy, just Google some tutorials. How you get "good" (or maybe even "great") is simply by looking at other peoples code (view-source helps!) and coding all the time. You'll learn all the tricks in the book so enough. |

I consider myself a great coder: http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp The best way for you to start is pick a small project. Programming like pouring a cup of tea. You have to think, what has to happen now? What do I have to do now? However, learning Java (that's not Javascript) will greatly improve your ability to keep your code organised, commented and encourage to use consistency - provided you use Java properly. Practise. The more you do it the easier it will become and the more you'll progress. Also don't be afraid to try new things out.
